The Gibson Les Paul Standard electric guitar is an attractive instrument that delivers a powerful and uniquely punchy sound. It's got a figured AA top that makes it easy on the eyes, along with a few modern innovations that make it one of the most versatile Les Pauls on the market today. It adopts the '60s SlimTaper neck design with an updated, supremely comfortable asymmetrical profile, and comes with two BurstBucker Pro pickups that lend it a distinctive voice all its own.

Solid Features Throughout

The Gibson Les Paul Standard adapts many of the innovations that Gibson pioneered over the years. The result is lighter, faster instrument, with more tonal power. The mahogany neck is a compound radius design meaning that notes sustain better at every point in the bound rosewood fingerboard than they do on a traditional profile. The locking TonePros Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece ensure solid sustain and precise intonation on each string, while a set of high-quality locking Grover kidney-button tuners locks them squarely into place.

A Rare Pickup Faithfully Reproduced

The most distinguishing feature of this Gibson Les Paul Standard is the pair of complementary BurstBucker Pro 1 and BurstBucker Pro 2 pickups, found in the neck and bridge positions respectively. The inspiration for these pickups derived from a few particular specimens discovered in '60s-era instruments owned by Japanese collectors. It was discovered that these pickups varied in their output and tone read more due to inconsistencies from the hand-driven bobbin winding machines used by Gibson after the late 1950s. This led to the creation of a few pickups that had an uneven number of coil windings between each of the two coils in the humbucker pickup. According to the collectors who found these tones so appealing, the sound of the pickups themselves have more edge and bite than the normal PAFs that most Gibson players are familiar with. When you plug it in and play, you'll notice how the tone has more bite and character than the super-smooth Gibson '57 Classics that appear in numerous other Les Pauls. The vintage tone is assured with unpolished Alnico II magnet and un-waxed potting on both coils.

Push/Pull Coil Taps, Phase Changing and Pure Bypass

The tonal versatility of this instrument goes even further with Push/Pull Tone knobs on each pickup, allowing you to independently split the coils and obtain single-coil tones from your humbuckers! You can Pull the neck pickup's tone control for reverse-phase tones, or Pull the bridge pickup's tone knob to tap Gibson's new Pure Bypass setting. The latter allows that pickup to route directly to the output for a hotter signal.

I've wanted a Les Paul for decades, but never got around to getting one, life kept getting in the way. I had a few customizations in mind for whenever I did get one. Was only recently I learned the 2013 Standard had all of the extras I wanted, stock (the coil-switching, out-of-phase, Grover locking tuners, AA top, the right color), but the 2014 model had a lot of changes that I didn't want (Klusons instead of Grovers, lack of fret-binding, different colors, etc). So I finally jumped.Wow! This is a beaut! A lot of reviews talked about Gibson's irregularness, that there were finish issues, buzzy frets, etc., so I was a little anxious while waiting on it to arrive, but my concerns were instantly alleviated. This guitar is beautiful, not a flaw. Plays *so* well out of the box. I still like my old Strat, but this Les Paul just has a wonderful feel to it. This guitar tuned right up and holds its tune. It's easy to play, and the nuances you can pull out of the guitar's options, without having any effects... impressive. No, it's not the cheapest guitar out there; but, it's a wonderful guitar, a genuine article. I mean, it's a Gibson Les Paul, right?
