This guitar will make you shun every guitar you've ever had before it, and you will probably be playing ESP's for the rest of your life -- I know I will be.
Sound
Legendary EMG 81 in the Bridge and a 60 in the Neck, it definitely doesn't get much better. Body is made of Mahogany so it has that deep tone, and, as hard as it might be to imagine from the looks, you can even get that "twangy" Jazz sound out of the 60 in the neck.
Quality
My FX-400 had a perfect finish when it came in, and it still does now. After about 4-5 months of playing it's only acquired a few scratches on the clear coat on the horns, which you are barely able to see. The horns, sometimes get in the way and you will inevitably bump them on a few things, but no worries, they are extremely resilient.
Value
This guitar has the components of a ~$1500+ guitar, but in a much more affordable package. The thing about ESP and it's LTD brand is that if you can afford the 400 series you do not loose out on any of build quality from even the actual ESP guitars (albiet, they don't come as well tuned from the factory :D)
Manufacturer Support
I haven't had to use them yet.
The Wow Factor
The guitar itself is beautiful, the EX model may look better to some people, but often you can't take your black EX-400 and mount it above the mantle of your fireplace and be happy… read more with the way it looks -- and that's exactly what I did with my FX-400. The other thing that I love about the LTD FX series is that no two guitars have the same spalted maple layout. That is to say, the places where the maple is spalted onto the mahagony is never the same on any two guitars. So in essence you're getting a completely unique guitar... from the factory!
