Overview
The Yamaha APX600 Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar combines incredible comfort, easy top-fret access and an incredible sound ready for all stages in your life. Now featuring a distinct oval abalone rosette, the new APX600 will strike a chord with any recreational acoustic player that wants to plug-in.
As an electric guitarist in the '80s, if you wanted to play acoustic on stage there were few options available. In 1987, Yamaha made the first acoustic guitar that could be taken from a guitar rack, plugged in and played at volume, problem free; no more howling feedback, misplaced mics or dreaded extended sound checks.
The latest APX600 features a unique under-saddle piezo pickup, the Yamaha proprietary SRT transducer featured in the highly-acclaimed A Series range, a natural tone and the feedback rejection and mix-friendly sound guitarists crave.
Although its style has evolved, the essence of the APX remains the same. Today, it boasts a more natural look, a deeper body for better bass response and greater volume, and a new non-scalloped bracing pattern for a responsive, dynamic tone.

Here's my review in one word: WOW! Ok, now let's talk turkey. First off, I wish the on line reviews would stop calling this an OK entry level guitar great for beginners (It is great for beginners)...but I have been playing for 56 years so hardly a beginner. Currently touring and fronting a blues band and I do plenty of solo gigs too. I own very high end Martins, Gibsons and Fenders. I found an APX 500II in a second hand store and they wanted 339.00 for it so I looked it up because I was unfamiliar with the model. They wanted the same price as a new one so I passed, but it felt FANTASTIC in my hands. I couldn't get it out of my mind so I checked out zZounds and they had the APX 600 ( the upgraded version of the 500II ) with a gloss top for the same as the used one in the second hand store. Why I ordered it, I don't know. But it arrived less than 24 hours after ordering. Plugged it in and wow! Fantastic. The amplified acoustic sound I was looking for in a guitar that weighs less than 7 pounds with a neck as thin as my custom Strat. What more could I ask for? The fit and finish are flawless. Intonation was spot on. Easiest 'acoustic ' guitar I ever played. Now, the sound unplugged was so-so, but fine for noodling around on the couch while the Mrs was watching Lifetime ( the man bashing channel) but plugged into an amp or a PA and this thing really comes to life. Great bass response, crisp clear highs and balanced mid range. I have guitars that cost literally thousands of dollars…

each ( just ask zZounds, that's where I buy most of my good stuff) but this $339 'entry level' guitar is phenomenal. Taking it to a gig tomorrow, and may leave the $2100 Martin at home. I may even just go back to the second hand store where I saw the first one and pick that up too, price be darned. VERY pleased with this Yamaha APX600. But please don't think of it as an 'entry level' guitar, think of it as the best bang for the buck you could get.
