Overview
With Taylor's Gold Label Collection, master builder Andy Powers has pushed Taylor acoustics into powerful sonic terrain -- inspired by an older, more traditional sound. The guitars in the collection combine several innovative design elements that contribute to the sound -- a Super Auditorium body style, a unique V-Class-inspired bracing pattern, and a long tenon neck joint -- plus a decorative aesthetic. The Gold Label Collection is a premium-performance offering within the Taylor lineup but with a unique design identity.
Andy wanted a warmer, older, "heritage" sound -- something from more than a generation earlier than when Taylor Guitars was founded (1974); more reminiscent of traditional flattop tone from the 1930s -- but with the established benefits of V-Class including improved volume, sustain, responsiveness and pitch accuracy between notes.
This powerful sonic recipe features changes in body shape and bracing patterns. The proportions resemble Taylor's Grand Auditorium, but the body is slightly longer and the lower bout is slightly wider. Andy describes it as having a "classically proportioned set of curves."
Fanned V-Class bracing: This V-Class variant features a fan-like arrangement of braces in the soundboard's lower bout. They are also set in place using traditional hot hide glue. The sonic result, according to Andy Powers is "a more pronounced richness in the midrange frequencies."
