VMS ML-1A is the first microphone released as part of the relaunch of the Virtual Microphone System, which started with the ML-1 and ML-2 microphones. It is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone ideal for recording vocals but can also be used for instrument micing and room/overhead micing.

The ML-1A sports a new visual style, a 3-position pad switch (0, -10, -20) for increased MaxSPL, and is manufactured to exacting standards such that any two ML-1A microphones are a matched pair.

When combined with the new Virtual Microphone System software plugin, users can enjoy the experience and benefits of using many famous, but typically expensive and hard-to-acquire microphones in their productions.

The Virtual Microphone System 2 plugin hosts numerous microphone models--condenser, tube, and ribbon models--made famous over decades of studio recordings, and the collection is continually growing. What's exceptionally powerful is that the user can change the microphone model after the recording has been made, meaning the microphone choice can be delayed to the mixdown stage--the user can select the microphone model that sounds best in the context of the rest of the recording as it evolves.

The Virtual Microphone System plugin also allows the user to select the Intensity of the microphone model, even allowing the behavior to overshoot the characteristics of the original microphone model. If a FET microphone is too bright, you can reduce the Intensity to below 100% to remove a bit of the edge.

New with the Virtual Microphone System 2 is also the ability to blend the characteristics of two microphone models--a first in this category. This accurately blends the traits--their unique frequency characteristics, saturation behaviors, and non-linearities--to create an entirely new microphone model. This makes the number of microphone models in a Virtual Microphone System infinite. The latest software also supports stereo widening of mono recordings and hosts virtual preamps to complete the "front end" recording.
