Seymour Duncan SSL-2 Vintage Flat Stratocaster Guitar Pickup

Get all the chime and sparkle that's synonymous with Stratocasters with the Seymour Duncan SSL-2 pickup, and achieve the vintage tones you're going after.

Seymour Duncan's Vintage Flat for Stratocaster delivers all the chime and sparkle of their Vintage Staggered Strat model, but has flat alnico 5 rod magnets that provide a more even string balance for modern guitars with a larger neck radius, and players using lighter gauge strings. The flat poles also give this pickup a little less edge for an overall smoother tone.

Aside from the flat pole pieces, Seymour Duncan uses all of the same materials to build these as in their vintage Fender style single coil pickups. This starts with assembling the bobbins with the proper color and thickness of Forbon flatwork, and hand filing the flatwork, assembly, and lacquering the bobbins just as it was done during Fenders Golden Age. This pickup is potted and comes complete with waxed and tinned cloth pushback hook-up wires and traditional keyed bottom plate.

I put this in the neck of an hss setup and it's pretty good. It's exactly what I wanted soundwise. It's very bright and clean. It's got a very sweet quality to it, making light playing sound fantastic. If you add distortion, it handles it ok. When I put on my Pantera effects on this pickup, it actually still sounds pretty clear. The same settings on my EMGs on another guitar sounds super gnarly, but this pickup somehow cuts through all of that. It's crazy. You really have to work to get any grit out of this pickup. I bought this pickup to build up a guitar that can really sing, not growl. I succeeded, for sure. Really great pickup. If you play heavy music, look elsewhere. If you want a very clear and bright pickup that doesn't sound thin, this is a solid choice.
