What's special about this item?

Feature: What it does:
PRS Type-D single-coil pickup Low-output design for uncompromised dynamic feel.
Pattern regular neck Variation of PRS's "Standard" neck profile
Mahogany body Rich, warm, focused sound; added sustain
Rosewood fretboard Open, warm tone and smooth playing feel

The S2 Vela Semi-Hollow is a vintage-inspired guitar with loads of personality and tonal textures. The Vela boasts a contemporary offset body shape, and the addition of a semi-hollow body and satin nitro finish gives the Vela added attitude and resonance with a truly addictive feel.

Its pickguard-loaded electronics feature a PRS DS_01 pickup in the bridge, providing a bright, punky tone and the PRS-Designed Type-D Singlecoil in the neck that gives the Vela some noteworthy bite. The coil-tap on the tone control allows the bridge pickup to split to singlecoils, providing a balanced tone that will cut through the mix with style. Anchoring this guitar is the PRS plate-style bridge with two saddles that were designed to compensate for intonation. This bridge harkens back to Paul’s early designs and traditional bass plate-style bridges but is top-loading for easy restringing. Like the bridge found on Paul’s Guitar and some Private Stock models, PRS’s plate-style bridge features brass saddles and an aluminum plate for maximum tonal sustain.

Completely impressed and amazed by this guitar. I'm a Gibson player and own several Les Paul's from Tributes, Studios to Standards. I have fallen in love with the satin finishes that Gibson has been using on some of their guitars but the satin finish on the PRS is next level. You can actually feel the grain and pores of the wood. Albeit it doesn't have that intoxicating new Gibson smell. Fretwork has been less than perfect on some of my Gibsons but this PRS is on point when it comes to its frets. The neck on this guitar is labeled by PRS as "Pattern regular neck" which I had no idea what that meant, but after playing with it for a while I would say it is thinner than the Gibson 50's neck profile but slightly thicker than the Gibson 60's neck. Something that falls in between the two, which I find extremely comfortable. Sound is versatile when plugged in and it being a semi-hollow body, gives you a wide range that isn't too sharp, tinny, or twangy like some fenders might have but still gives you that hint of a Fender single coil. This guitar is actually making me consider buying another one in a different color, it's that good.
