Proco Juggernaut Bass Rat Pedal

No longer available at zZounds
Battery or AC powered. AC adapter not included.

For 25 years, discerning guitarists have used the Rat's 'magic' distortion. Now, bass players can have their own radically different sound designed specifically for the bass. The Juggernaut provides three functions: a versatile distortion unit, a mixer to combine distortion with direct sound, and an effects loop for use with external processing devices. Utilizing the same steel enclosure as the Deucetone Rat, the built-like-a-tank Juggernaut is virtually indestructible.

Features:
Smooth, continuously variable controls for distortion amount, filter cutoff and volume level let you preset just the right degree of overdrive, tune in on the presence without any tinny treble, and balance the output for that perfect extra boost.

The Juggernaut has two LED indicator lights that make the on/off status easy-to-see, with knob indicators provided for added visibility.

There is a master volume pot provided to control overall output level.

Although the unit can be operated using an internal 9v battery (not provided), it is suggested that an outboard RPS1 Rat power supply be used because of its significant current drain.

"This is not just another regular fuzz!"

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
I will not become unsatisfied with this product to search for a "better" fuzz. This one is excellent in its kind. I chose this one because RAT distortion has prove itself over the age and time.

Sound
The sound is similar to a vintage fuzz you can get with a tube amplifier, it is good quality and a professional tool. RAT fuzz, you get more distortion on your bass and you keep a nice natural tone from the instrument. Unlike cheaper ones like the Big Muff (seems like it has 2 tracks, 1 for bypassing the tone and another one with a canny fuzz). I use it on heavy rock and songs where the guitars like to go mad, the sound you get is heavier, pronounced and more solid. It works great with other pedal as it include a true bypass, a volume knob (allows also to boost the sound). And mixer knob wich allows you to add the quantity of distortion with another effect. I use a phaser with this pedal wich makes it sound great.

Features
My first impression with the pedal wasn't good, first because of the lack of reviews on it, and the quality of the reviews about the pedal. This pedal is doomed by lack of attention from musician, and people don't want to pay 150$ for a fuzz. However I can say I am very satisfied and it is completely worth it to spend the money for it, that's why I take the time to post this review. The pedal has an "outboard effect" in and out, it has a distortion, volume and tone knob. It has a master volume and read more a mixing knob. The only thing I hate is that I need to spend extra money to buy an AC extension to plug it.

Ease of Use
If you buy a good pedal, you have to LEARN how to use your effect, so you have a learning process that comes with the pedal wich is great as it allows you to "grow" as a musician. Just play around, try different things, play with and without.

Quality
One of the rare pedal still made in the US. It is a very good quality. It is heavy (1.5 k.g), it's a tank (be careful, you can use it as a weapon!). Material and crafting is not cheap made. I think it will last 100+ years!

Value
Yes, as I've mentioned, this pedal is good quality . If you want to sound professional, you need professional tools like this one.

Manufacturer Support
I've contact them via email recently and they've replied to me within 2 weeks or so, with every details about the questions I ask for.

The Wow Factor
I wanted this pedal so much that now I bring it everywhere. I like big vintage pedals (this one is my smallest) and I find it very appropriate in my set. It is a sexy pedal.
