Further playing up the boutique-style of this instrument, the Kingston Z features a high quality (and carefully constructed) Mahogany core, with a beautiful Burled Maple top. The carved mahogany body lends a rich voice and darker overtone to the instrument, while the burl top helps to focus the low end, delivering unparalleled beauty and performance.

The Kingston Z features an elegant matching headstock, and asymmetrical neck, providing exceptional ergonomics, ranking it high among players as one of Michael Tobias Designs' most popular models. The V2 version is equipped with Hipshot open gear tuning machines and carbon fiber support rods, for increased stability and durability.

Hi all I own this bass it’s a beautiful instrument with a tonal palette that rivals some boutique instruments. I compared it to my friends 535-24 which is handmade and costs over $4000 after playing the 535 I really wanted it but I couldn’t financially afford it at the time so I bought the Z5MP and upgraded the electronics to the Mtd Bartolini electronics (pickups/preamp). There’s still an obvious difference but the tone I was looking for was easily achieved. I’m very happy with my upgraded instrument now the old electronics were good but but it was always active. I now have the active/passive choice and also the mid frequency choice of hi and low mids. I let my friend play it and since he had an emergency financial crisis and sold his 535. He was actually surprised by the way it played and sounded he bought a Z5MP and I upgraded it for him. Said when his finances improved he buy another 535 but he’s currently gigging and happy with his upgradedZ5MP. I’m glad I bought this bass and upgraded it myself. The feel,tone,weight looks and playability is amazing.

The sound and quality are amazing only wished it came with a gig bag.
