Mobile audio recording with instant distribution!
From the early days of analog micro-cassettes, mobile audio recorders have evolved into highly sophisticated digital devices. Today's recorders offer unprecedented sound quality and storage capacity, but quick and easy distribution of recorded material remains a challenge. New technology from Marantz is set to change that. With an onboard CD burner for on-site duplication, the CDR310 has the distribution solution.

No editing necessary
In the past, digital recording devices would offload their content onto a computer for editing and distribution. This tedious and often frustrating process adds significantly to the turnaround time, especially for non-technical users. Journalists, lawyers, public officials, and business people can all push the "record" button, but chopping out dead spots, tightening-up sound bites, and finalizing CD's are probably not a part of their daily routine. The CDR310 simplifies all these tasks for the speediest delivery of your audio content.

Multiple record modes tighten up audio clips
Podcasts, speeches, and round-table discussions are sometimes conducted in a controlled environment, but there can often be unexpected circumstances. If a scheduled break ends early, for example, you may lose important details while your recorder is paused. CDR310 recorders offer two different modes to make sure you don't miss a thing. Pre-record mode automatically gives you a rolling 10-second buffer when you turn the read more device on. If the meeting starts abruptly or you're a little slow to the un-pause button, your information is still preserved. Background mode continues to record, even after you hit pause. You then have the option of deleting the background audio, or saving it if something important happened during the break. With either mode, you tighten up your audio clips. No missed content and no wasted space.

Eliminates gaps
To prevent dead spots in your recordings, use the silent-skip function. Voice-activated technology automatically pauses recording during quiet moments. For example, a two-hour deposition may contain thirty minutes of "dead air" while papers are shuffled and thoughts are gathered before answers are given. Normally, you would have to suffer through the silence during playback. Silent-skip cuts out the dead spots, resulting in a tight, quick-moving, ninety-minute recording. You get right to the content without any pauses. No cutting, no cropping, no editing at all; the CDR310 handles it for you.

One-touch duplication
The onboard CD burner offers instant, one-touch archiving of your recording project. As the city council meeting adjourns, just press the Make CD button while refreshments are served. Each member of the board will have a word-for-word copy of the proceedings when they are ready to leave. If meetings last longer than the 80-minute CD limit, the CDR310 automatically spans multiple discs with no more effort on your part than inserting the next CD in the slot. This immediate turnaround time will increase productivity. When everyone is on the same page, action can be taken immediately, with instant reference to the content when clarification is needed.

Storage space and power options
Recording sessions can stretch on as long as you need with the internal 4GB hard drive. It will store up to five hours of uncompressed, 16-bit/44.1kHz stereo PCM audio, or a whopping 110 hours of 64kbps mono MP3 audio. Even the longest-winded politician will run out of steam long before the CDR310. Custom tailor your project for hard drive space or audio quality by selecting stereo or mono CD-DA, AIFF, WAV, or MP3 formats. It's all flawlessly burned to CD with the touch of a button. You get up to four hours of power from eight AA batteries, or you can use the included AC adapter when a power outlet is available.

I/O options
You can't get a quality recording with a sup-par microphone. Fortunately, Marantz's integrated condenser mic picks up any desired sound with pristine accuracy. In situations where it isn't practical to position the CRD310 close to the audio source, two phantom-powered XLR connections let you use your favorite dynamic or condenser mics for mono or stereo recording, anywhere in the room. The CRD310's onboard speaker is perfect for monitoring your recordings to ensure you captured what you needed. You'll never have to guess at the playback quality; you'll know if you have what you need, right there and then.

Product Description

Marantz is taking CD recording to the next level with the CDR310, the first truly portable, affordable CD-based field recorder. Whether for documentation, duplication, or archiving, audio CDs promote confidence through their permanence and universality. While digital recording and CD burning have been commonplace for several years, existing hardware has lacked the go-anywhere flexibility and ease of use that users have come to expect in the digital age. The CDR310 has changed all that.

Digital Recording
On-board hard drive records in your choice of formats: CD-DA, uncompressed WAV and AIFF, or MP3. The system records high quality, 16-bit audio at a 44.1 kHz sample rate, and the hard drive holds up to 110 hours of material (MP3 mono). You simply select the file type before recording, and the CDR310 handles the rest.

Instant CD Burning
At the conclusion of your meeting or event, your audio file can be burned to CD instantly. At the conclusion of recording, simply press the Make CD button and the CDR310 will ask if you want to burn to a CD. Just follow the on-screen prompts, and your disc will be ready in minutes. For events over 80 minutes long in CD-DA format, the CDR310 offers CD Split burning, dividing the contents over multiple discs automatically.

Convenience and Portability
One-touch record operation and an easy-to-read LCD status screen ensure fault-free recording, even for non-technical operators. Its lightweight design and battery operation capability makes the CDR310 equally at home inside an office or out in the field. When there’s no wall outlet around, the unit accepts AA alkaline batteries, or optional Ni-Cd and Ni-MH rechargeables. Using the optional RB1651 battery, the CDR310 delivers up to 4 hours of continuous operation.

Multi-mode Recording Features
The CDR310 incorporates Pre-Record mode along with Background Record to capture all the action. By simply powering up, the Pre-Record mode is engaged. This creates a rolling buffer of recorded audio, up to 10 seconds long (user selectable). So if your meeting or event starts unexpectedly, you’re protected. Once the event has begun, the Rec-Pause function activates Background Record mode. If there’s a break in the action, just hit Pause. If anything vital happens, it’s captured on the CDR310’s hard drive. When the meeting officially resumes and you release the Pause control, the CDR310 gives you the option of deciding whether to keep the audio captured during Background Record. Another easy-to-use option is Silent Skip recording. This function uses voice activation to save disc space by automatically pausing during quiet passages, creating a tighter, more client friendly recording.

Professional Hardware
Analog line level and balanced high perfomance XLR microphone inputs are included, as well as S/PDIF-format digital I/O with high quality A-D converters. The CDR310 also provides +48V phantom power, and even has an integrated condenser microphone and playback speaker right on board. Remote control is also available by using the optional RC600PMD.
