Rock Is Back

Ibanez is happy to hear it. At Ibanez, guitar rock never "left" -- and if you're the type of player who's in the market for an Ibanez, you've been too busy playing guitar or bass to worry a whole lot about the media's take on music.

I won't be replacing this guitar anytime soon. I knew what I was getting and I'm glad I got it. I've got six guitars altogether and sought this one out specifically for its fast playing, aggressive rock sound and overall quality of workmanship at a price that can't be beat.

Sound
In its price range, the RG350DX is one of the best guitars out there. I've had a number of guitars over past 25 years or so, including several RGs, and am just as pleased with the new one as I was with the other ones. While it is not an all-in-one guitar that will give you the tone you need to play everything such as jazz, country, or vintage rock with authentic tone, it does respond very well to 80's hard rock and current metal styles. There are 5 different pickup configurations that offer moderate variance in tone, but not as much as you may find in older, heavier solid body guitars such as a Les Paul. The RG has a consistently brighter tone regardless of what pickup configuration you are playing with. However, that trait lends itself very well to capturing pitch harmonics nearly anywhere on the fretboard and a tone that cuts through the mix no matter what register you happen to be playing in. With a little adjustment on the tone controls from your amp or boards you will be able to get a nice clean tone that does not sound thin. The tone control on the guitar itself doesn't seem to allow the player enough on-the-fly adjustment for my preferences. However, playing read more through modeling amps and multi-effects units can more than make up for it. I have played mine pretty much as-is without many modifications. The only things I did to mine was install a Tremsetter and lower the action. The thin neck allows for very fast and smooth playing. I tend to do a lot of string bending but not a lot of dive-bomb whammy bar antics so I have never had a problem with it staying in tune. Bottom line: This is a great hard rock/heavy metal guitar at a great price. You won't be disappointed that you got it.

Features
5-position pickup selector for a variety of tone, thin neck for fast lead playing and effectless sweeping, floating bridge that stays in tune, comfortable to play. I give it a 9 instead of a 10 because I would like to see a little more tone control on the guitar itself.

Ease of Use
Very playable. Very comfortable to play extended periods of time.

Quality
Very durable and great craftsmanship. The guitar was shipped to me without a single blemish. The finish is beautiful and the hardware is solid. As far as dependability goes, I would definitely feel comfortable hauling it around if I was still playing the circuits.

Value
The quality far exceeds the price. This guitar plays like those priced twice as much.

Manufacturer Support
Never had to deal with product support.

The Wow Factor
I don't know about how "sexy" it is, but I have always liked the look and feel of the RG line. I've had some fairly wild finishes on some of my guitars in the past, but the white finish and black hardware on this one give it a clean look that would not look out of place in any stage setting.
