The Masterbilt Story
First released in June 1931, the original Epiphone Masterbilt guitars were overseen by founder Epi Stathopoulo who was quoted in the catalog: "The possessor of an EPIPHONE instrument has the assurance that every possible precaution has been taken to build instruments for lifetime performance and pleasure."

Yesterday: Epi Stathoupoulo's Last Guitar
The Epiphone Texan or FT-79 is recognized worldwide as the guitar that both Paul McCartney and Peter Frampton used to write some of their biggest hits. But the basic design of the FT-79 was first put into production in 1942 when Epiphone was based in New York City and under the direction of founder Epi Stathopoulo. The FT-79 was likely the last acoustic instrument that Epi helped design. After Epiphone merged with Gibson in 1957, the FT-79 was refined into the modern "Texan" and went into production at the legendary factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan in the late 50s. The Texan has remained virtually unchanged for over 50 years.

I heard a Texan USA made guitar, and the sound and finish blew me away, so did the price tag. I had heard great things about the Masterbilt, so I decided to get one through zZounds. At a great cost under a grand, this guitar arrived quickly. So I tuned her up and I was stunned at the amazing sound of this finely crafted guitar. Very rich low end, perfect mids, and just the right amount of sparkling highs. The finish is a satin/ Gloss that looks perfect. I did file the saddle a tiny bit, and adjusted the neck, restrung with elxier strings.... and I absolutely love it. Plays great, sounds better than any Gibson J45 I've played... This is a keeper guitar that rocks. The electronics sound great through my studio p.a system. This is the best sounding slope shoulder guitar I have ever heard!! I was a bit leary being a high end Martin and Gibson guy, but I'm not anymore. I WILL hit the stage with this one, Yes its that good!! Go try one, you'll see.
