Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Explorer 80s EMG Electric Guitar, Cardinal Red (with Gig Bag)
Overview
The Explorer(TM) was first introduced in 1958. While it was initially met with less-than-enthusiastic reception, guitarists soon discovered its many charms. By the 1970s, rock players had embraced its futuristic shape and powerful sound.
During the hard-rocking 1980s, however, the model truly came into its own and was adopted by some of the decade's most influential guitarists. The Explorer 80s - EMG is inspired by the popular 1984 model. The 1984 Gibson Explorer became an icon thanks to its distinctive design and massive tone.
Players like The Edge, Billy Gibbons, and James Hetfield have all wielded Explorers, helping cement the model's legendary status. James Hetfield's famous 1984 Gibson Explorer -- often referred to as "Explorer 83" -- featured a unique control layout without a pickguard, adding to its unmistakable look. The Explorer 80s - EMG features a fast-playing mahogany neck with a comfortable 60s SlimTaper(TM) profile.
The neck is topped with a rosewood fretboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and simple pearloid dot inlays. The Explorer headstock is equipped with mini die-cast tuners and a Graph Tech(R) nut for excellent tuning stability. At the other end, the strings pass over an Epiphone LockTone(TM) Tune-O-Matic(TM) bridge and are anchored with a LockTone Stop Bar tailpiece.
The iconic mahogany body is outfitted with a pair of active EMG(TM) pickups -- an EMG 60 in the neck position and an EMG 81 in the bridge. Together, they deliver the powerful output, thick… read more tones, and rich sustain that players favored throughout the 1980s. A 9-volt battery powers the active pickups, and the battery compartment is conveniently located on the back of the guitar for quick and easy access.
The pickups are wired to individual volume controls and a master tone control, topped with knurled metal control knobs. A pickguard-free design gives the Explorer 80s - EMG a sleek, aggressive look that perfectly complements its retro-futuristic vibe. The Explorer 80s - EMG comes packed in a premium gig bag and is ready to partner with you to rock the world.
Note: A 9-volt battery is required to power the pickups and is not included.
