24-Bit/96 kHz Processing 8 in/8 Out Digital Audio Interface
Edirol has released its very own studio quality card, the Edirol DA 2496. The DA 2496 is a rack-mount system with a whole host of connections to help your computer become the center of your recording studio. Whether you are running to your computer from an outboard mixer or directly plugging your instruments into the computer, the DA-2496 is the best way to get from the instrument to the computer. Furthermore, the inputs on the front of the unit can supercede the inputs on the back. So if you have your DA 2496 setup in your rack but want to plug a bass directly into one of the Hi-Z inputs on the card, (no need for a direct box) you don't need to unplug the back of the unit.

The DA 2496 is comprised of a high-quality breakout box and Edirol's DA-PCI card to connect the breakout box to the computer. The DA 2496 also includes controller software to route all of your signals. Never has it been easier or more cost effective to build your own studio.

Edirol DA2496 8x8 Digital Audio Interface Customer Review

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

Can't see me outgrowing this for a while. Only doing home recording on my PC with guitars, keyboards and mics going into the inputs. Works well in conjunction with my SB Live which I stil use for some MIDI sounds.
Sound
Sound great. I used to use a SBLive Platinum so am only really comaring it to that. Everything is clean and quiet. Have used under both 98SE and XP and using under XP I was able to use the ASIO drivers. 98SE was a bit buggy with ASIO. Both ASIO and WDM work well in XP.
Features
Does exactly what it says it does. Being able to plug into the front to override the rear connectors is real handy. Plus the headphone monitoring is good. I don't even use my mixer anymore. It would be good if the digital I/O was separate (if you turn digital on then it takes up the analog channel 7&8). But then I guess that woul have it a 10 I/O card. Midi I/O works fine too.
Quality
Seems to be well made and solid feel to it.
Manufacturer Support
Support was great. I emailed Roland in Australia and they emailed back and suggested some things the next morning. They also asked for my contact number if I was still having problems and they called me up almot straight away to discuss it over the phone.
The Wow Factor
It's nice and shiny. Brushed aluminium looks better than a black case.
