Overview

The Double AcoustiFex series pickups for ukuleles features on board effects that can be heard acoustically or played through amplification.

The UO features Double's patented "Same Frequency Transmission" (SFT) technology that incorporates a small transducer unit mounted on the inside back of the uke and "drives" the wood of the instrument to create stunning effects and tone.

The pickups feature onboard reverb, chorus and delay, each with individual level controls along with a master volume. Both styles utilize a new-generation lithium ion 18650 battery that can power the unit for up to 30 or more hours of continuous playing time on a single full charge.

The U0 features a micro USB port on the front of the unit for easy-access charging. It also features a tone control for the pickup when used in the amplified mode and a TransLevel control that acts like a Gain control for the FST transducer to drive it harder or softer to match with the tonal aspects of the instrument.

As a lifetime musician who is no stranger to pickups or luthiery, I'm quite sure I followed all instructions to install this pickup correctly (I only installed the acoustic transducer). I charged it fully, double and triple checked all connections, and made sure all knobs were set at the correct intervals. It produced a thin hiss, but no effects at all. Troubleshooting materials are nonexistent and the documentation had no FAQs. zZounds does not allow returns of opened pickups, so that's that. I might have had a dud, but that was my experience. While the promotional materials certainly looked convincing and I thought it would be pretty neat to have reverb shimmering out of my ukulele, I definitely don't recommend this product.
