dbx Di4 4-Channel Direct Box

Drowning in DI boxes? With the dbx Di4 you can put 4 DI points in one box to de-clutter your stage or studio, plus it doubles as a 4-channel line mixer.

The 4-channel Di4 is designed to be used as a standard tool for many audio applications. Offering four channels, the Di4 easily solves the problem of converting unbalanced signals into balanced output suitable for use with mixers, PAs, recording consoles and more. The Di4 also functions as multi-channel stereo line mixer. This feature allows you to connect all your keyboards, samplers and modules into just one rack unit on stage and supply independent XLR balanced outputs to the stage box for a front of house engineer and set your own independent mix for stage monitoring. The Di4 also offers a headphone output.

Using the dbx Di4 as a DI Box

Connect the signal you would like to convert from unbalanced to balanced to the Di4 via a 1/4-inch unbalanced jack to one of the channel inputs on the front panel of the unit. Connect an XLR balanced cable to the corresponding channel output on the rear of the Di4 and connect to your chosen destination. If the input signal strength is too high you can depress the 20dB pad. If there is an ground (earth) loop hum you can remove by depressing the earth lift switch.

Using the dbx Di4 as a Line Mixer

You can mix volume and pan of all input signals to a single stereo pair of RCA connections on the rear of the Di4. This enables use of the unit as a fully functional line mixer. Just connect the RCA stereo master outputs on the rear to your chosen destination and adjust the individual volume and pan controls for each individual channel on read more the front of the Di4 to suit your needs.

I got this because of a band that I know is coming in a couple months and they'll need 4 DI channels. Instead of messing around with a bunch of single channel units, I bought this instead. The picture shown isn't the same. It has black level knobs, but still has the same functions as the one pictured. One thing I noticed, and it's a minor gripe, is that the box has no on/off switch. So, at the end of the night I have to unplug the unit. Not a huge deal, just would of been nice to leave it plugged in and turn it on or off.Sound quality is great. I have plugged into aux inputs straight from the guitar to our Behringer X32 board and I think it sounds better through the DI box. I also have attenuation switches for hot sources, so it's easier to handle than straight to aux inputs. Also, I do not have any grounding hum going through the DI box since the single is taken from the box to the board via XLR.
