Kali Audio LP-6 V2 Powered Studio Monitor

zZounds Gear Experts Say...
Outfit your studio with Kali's smash-hit LP-6 powered studio monitor -- now with updated boundary EQ settings and a lower-noise amp platform in Version 2.

Kali Audio's LP-6 V2 is a 6.5-inch studio monitor. It was designed to deliver transparent sound for creators working across genres and formats at a price that puts it within anyone's reach. An advanced waveguide, a large voice coil, and precision tuning make the sound extraordinarily transparent, while the oversized low frequency magnet and low noise port tube deliver powerful, clean bass response. To make it easy to integrate into your setup, the speaker is self-powered and has a variety of inputs. The DSP features Boundary EQ settings that optimize the speaker's response for where it's placed in your listening space.

The 2nd Version features an improved amplifier platform that offers lower noise, higher sensitivity, and smoother high-frequency response. The Boundary EQ settings have been updated based on user feedback, and the low-frequency driver cone has less mass for more consistent response.

"Excellent for the price"

I'll start off by saying, if you know much about audio gear you'll ignore the 3-star review. I imagine it's that guys first time using monitors. For the price these are probably the best you'll find. They'll hit better than $350-$400 monitors from other brands and are fairly flat which is nice. You can find EQ graphs to flatten them even more via pro-q or other eq programs fwiw (I use this to flatten my HD650s/HD580s and DT990 Pros) but ultimately like with microphones your room and it's treatment matter the most. These are only 6" speakers but they do reproducs bass fairly well, however if you're not going to buy a subwoofer you should invest in the LP-8's as they will have a much better extension into the low end.I think these speakers are best for someone who wants the spacial awareness of monitors, wants a fairly reliable mixing experience, but will still reference check on other devices or monitors. They're for someone who wants to avoid the dated "bedroom producer" look of KRK Rokits, and their infamous bass tilt, but without breaking the bank. If you're a serious bedroom artist I would definitely research what you need and while considering these, maybe aim for ADAM audio if you can afford it or the LP-8s over the LP-6, and the IN-8s over both. I would absolutely pair these with a subwoofer if you work on anything bass heavy as well. These are best, in my opinion, with someone who releases their tracks on spotify and has a small following, but isn't about to quit their job read more to persue music full tilt and still mixes/masters their own stuff.I also would highly recommend grabbing a mixcube as a mono reference if you're using these. For me personally, I love my pair and am using the lp-6s to build a VERY cheap dolby atmos system, mainly for personal enjoyment. I recommend looking up 7.1 and 11.4.2 setups and learning them, because these are sonically excellent and you could have a great surround sound home studio build for like $2,000-ish.

Sound
I would characterize the sound quality as excellent, flat and detailed with good transients. They are excellent for a new or established artist.

Features
The most useful feature is the eq settings on the back for adjusting to your placement in your room. This helps compensate bad treatment.

Ease of Use
It is exceptionally easy to get great sounds and with some minor tweaking these can genuinely rival monitors at double or even triple the price point.

Quality
I've not noticed any quality issues. They feel solid and have been used in a heavy traffic studio by a few dozen people with no signs of wear yet.

Value
This is easily from my experience with other monitors, at other home studios, and testing at stores, the best value monitor on the market for consumer and prosumer users. If you're making more than $10,000 a year from audio is the only way I would look at far more expensive brands.

The Wow Factor
Appeal wise, these are just monitors. I appreciate them being available in white to match my rooms aesthetic but they're really a tool and not a showpiece.
