I purchased the guild D 20 from the distribution point of zZounds in olive branch mississippi.Ordered through zZounds.Initially ,I wasn't excited about this guitar. After letting it acclimate in the house over night, after inspecting it to make sure there was no damage ,and got what I was paying for.I took guitar out of case and tuned it up. Number one the strings that came on the guitar imo, are just wrong for it.So I commenced to do a set up and change the strings. The fit and finish on the guitar is incredibly well done ,0 complaints. But , the truss rod was turned completely to the 0 relief position for the neck.It was so tight I contemplated on just returning it. But , I am a luthier, so with patience and knowledge I got the truss rod to back off. Happy to say all is well in that area.So I then set about the setup and string change.I relaced the strings with martins retro monel 12- 53 strings. I replaced plastic bridge pins with ebony. After tuning ,I set about playing. With the proper strings and set up, This is a fantastic example of guilds Guitars. Tuners are spot on, fret board , frets and bridge are as near perfect as you can get.The tone is that of an older D 25. In fact my go to guitar has been my 1990 D4 guild, as it has an incredible sound. This new D 20 is very similar to that aged D4 in tonal responses.Guitar responds very well to all string attack methods.,finger picking, flat picking , and strumming. It is loud if you want to attack it that way.And can also be played read more a bit more reserved without losing any high,s lows ,or mids.Well worth the purchase. zZounds flexible financing is a huge plus. As is their customer service. My chat with Jason, prior to purchasing, was informative, helpful, and professional.
