This is not a very sexy instrument. It doesn't even look that cool. But it's a very good one!
This is because the E5000 simply gets the job done. So easy, and without making any fuzz about it. I thinkk that is what makes a good instrument; you just work with it and keep concentrating on the music, not the tools. Then, of course, one could argue that it lacks some personality. But, hey! there are tons of old machines out there screeming to be tweeked again! On the other hand, vintage gear really won't be the creative base in a studio environment of today. If you can afford just one sampler/synthesizer, or need a main engine in your studio, I would go for the E5000. I've had it for about a year and a half, and I won't sell -rather I'm planning on getting another one since prices are getting really good. You just can't get this much fire power at this low cost anywhere else!

It is the only hardware sampler in the market that:

1) Can use an internal IDE hard-disk. This is very useful
since you can load up to 17 GB of sounds (that is more
than a dozen sample CDs) and your sequences. Thus, you don't
need to carry a CD-ROM drive and your disks to every gig you
go to. Great convenience!

2) It has a built-in 48-track sequencer. It accepts MIDI
files so you can write your sequences using a sequencer
software(Cakewalk, Cubase, etc.) and play the disk back
on your sampler when you travel on the road.

3) Sound quality is subjective but in my opinion, it is
comparable if not better than other samplers in the
market.

I opted to purchase this sampler over the esi-2000 and I'm glad I did. This is truly a pro machine. The interface is user friendly and the upgradable OS is great and getting better all the time. Plan to buy a hard drive and extra RAM. It does support IDE drives which don't recall seeing on the competitors.

2 months after the waranty expired, I started getting Static on outputs. Sent unit in for repair. It took 2.5 months to get it fixed, and it still has problems. I must say though that it sounds amazing!! The sequencer is weak.
