Feature:
Can't beat the pickup configuration. Massive punchy MEC humbucker lays down the funk, and the neck jazz pickup is great alone or blended with the humbucker. Great fretboard. Most Warwicks are built with really hard, heavy woods like bubinga, but this has a softer and lighter ashe body and brighter maple top. Your back and ears thank you for this, but the swamp ash is dinged pretty easily.
Quality:
I give the warwick a 10 in quality because i bought a used and abused stage bass with dings galore, and it still plays like a rock. I lucked into finding a deal on one of these badboys, and even though it has some character, i still get a ton of complements about it's look and sound on stage.
Value:
Even at the full price tag i think this is a deal. To get the same quality sounds you have to buy a Music Man and a Fender Jazz. It doesn't nail that jazz sound quite like the classic fender, but it adds its own flavor. Great looking, great playing.
Desirability:
How would I rate the sex appeal? interesting question.... A few people have commented that the upper horn is phallick. I honestly can't argue with them so take that as you will. If my bass was lost or stolen I would get another one for sure.
Sound:
I got this bass used in Nashville for $900. As you might expect the bass has quite a few dings and blemishes but all the tone and playability were still there, and that's all that matters to me since i play out a lot. I play a wide range of styles from jazz to rock to funk. What appealed to me about the bass was the wide range of sounds that you can get. It has an active circuit that boosts the lows and the highs and i find myself almost always using the active electronics. When the bass is played passive it can really growl. Once everything is blended and dialed in it's ready for anything, and the controls become intuitive.
Support:
The best support is when you don't need it.
Overall:
I plan to have this instrument the rest of my life. As of now it is my only bass so I praise it's versatility and dependability. I'm soon going to get a fender or carvin jazz bass to widen to tone range. You definitely know you're hearing a warwick when i play. Don't rub this thing with a diaper cause it's so pretty, play it out and let people enjoy it.
