Overview
With its distressed look, the M226SW A-style Mandola has a broken-in and well-played feel. Only premium woods like solid flamed maple and solid spruce have been used in crafting this unique and striking instrument.
Lyon & Healy, before incorporating as Washburn, was the first American manufacturer of mandolins until Washburn began making mandolins in 1887. The M226SW echoes the trends in mandolin styles of the early 20th century.
The Mandola is the ancestor of the modern-day mandolin. The Mandola also has a longer scale length than traditional mandolins, at 17 inches. It is normally tuned just like a viola: C G D and A.

"An excellent instrument with mandola sound in a mandolin body."

I play mandolin, and was interested in getting that lower register a mandola produces. And, I'm a big guy, so I was looking forward to having a little more instrument to play than the tiny mandolin. While once set up and broken in, the sound is superb along with the quality and aesthetics, I was a little let down by the size. It's essentially a mandolin with a mandola neck (the body is actually slightly smaller than my mandolin's)
Bottom line, this is a fine instrument for mandolin players who are comfortable with a mandolin's size and want to explore the sound of a mandola.
Musical Background:
Bass player for twenty years, recently got into guitar, mandolin and now mandola.
Musical Style:
Eclectic.
