An ancestor of the mandolin returns in Washburn's Vintage Mandola. Tuned like a viola and sporting a solid spruce top, it offers unique range and rich tone.

I play mandolin, and was interested in getting that lower register a mandola produces. And, I'm a big guy, so I was looking forward to having a little more instrument to play than the tiny mandolin. While once set up and broken in, the sound is superb along with the quality and aesthetics, I was a little let down by the size. It's essentially a mandolin with a mandola neck (the body is actually slightly smaller than my mandolin's) Bottom line, this is a fine instrument for mandolin players who are comfortable with a mandolin's size and want to explore the sound of a mandola.

Musical Background:

Bass player for twenty years, recently got into guitar, mandolin and now mandola.

Musical Style:

Eclectic.
