Multitrack Recording From Any Source
With an array of input options, you'll be able to track just about any source you'd ever need. The two XLR inputs are optimal for connecting microphones, and because they supply a full 48 volts of phantom power, you can even hook professional studio condenser mics directly up to the US144. Because the unit is powered from your computer's USB port, that means you can even use phantom-powered mics as part of a portable setup with your laptop. In addition to the XLRs, you get a pair of 1/4" analog line inputs for connecting samplers, drum machines and keyboards, and those inputs can be switched to "Hi-Z" to accommodate electric guitars and basses. If you like to use amp modeling plug-ins to keep the neighbors from complaining, the TASCAM US144 is the perfect interface! "Excellent for the price."
I think I'll go with this interface for a very long time. With it's sturdyness and all, it's simply breathtaking.
Sound
The sound is great on the Tascam US-144. It records the sound very nice and crisp, and frankly it feels like the real deal when I'm playing with, for instance, a guitar VST in Cubase. It is propably, with the right software on the computer, one of the best pre-amps you can get. However, the phone-output seems somewhat low.
Features
I did not install the LE Cubase, seeing as I have SX3 installed. Installing drivers was very easy, and it was all plug and play. I like the feature
Ease of Use
No fiddling around with stupid drivers, no turning up and down on stupid mixers, just insert the jack cable and play.
Quality
Very sturdy. When I bought this sound interface, I looked at some others to, and compared, they felt like cheap plastic. This is metal, and it's steelhardy.
Value
For the prize, it is eminent.
