Steinberg's new MIDI interface for USB handles communication between your MIDI equipment and your PC or Mac. Its three outputs and one input can address up to 48 MIDI channels. The MIDEX 3 doesn't even need a power adapter; the USB bus delivers the necessary current.
The MIDEX 3 brings the exact timing of hardware sequencers into the era of modern multitasking operating systems. Steinberg's new MIDI communication protocol LTB guarantees that each MIDI event has a maximum delay of a single millisecond -- the lowest latency of any MIDI interface available today.
Features:
LTB (Linear Time Base)
Integrated MIDI cable test function
MIDI Thru function
Numbered LED MIDI port activity indicators
USB cable included
Multi Client
To LTB or not to LTB
Linear Time Base has already been integrated into the MIDEX series of Steinberg's MIDI interfaces MIDEX 3 und MIDEX 8, Nuendo, Cubase VST and Cubase SX/SL range of programs. LTB is a MIDI Time Stamping technique that differs from other formats in that it bypasses the computer's operating system. This is similar in concept to Steinberg's ASIO specification for audio card communication, which significantly reduces latency.
High-speed MIDI timing is becoming more important in the age of virtual instruments. These offer sample accurate timing and when combined with hardware MIDI devices, the timing differences can quickly become apparent. LTB solves this problem by tightening up MIDI communication to other external devices.
