Product Description

Forget hiring, conducting and recording a 20-piece orchestra. Propellerhead has done it for you with the Strings ReFill Collection. This collection of sample patches and REX files will give your music the vibe that only real strings can provide.

Developed in association with PowerFX, Strings is a high quality collection of Dr.Rex string phrases and NN19 sampler patches. All string phrases have been edited in Propellerheads ReCycle program, which means that both tempo and pitch can be changed seamlessly for each loop. The ReCycle Rex file format also allow complete reorganization of the music phrases in Reasons Dr.Rex editor, all in total real-time.

Strings also contains 42 patches for Reasons NN19 sampler including Violin, Viola, Cello and Ensemble. The combination of Dr.Rex and NN19 material makes Strings not only a great authentic collection but also an incredible inspirational starting point.

Try using one of the 288 Rex loops and add a few choice notes with the NN19 sampler patches and you'll experience a brand new side of Reason. All Rex music loops are rhythmic in their character and ideally suited for R'n'B, pop, rock, hip-hop or well, any music with a drum beat really.

Reason Strings - The Russian Connection
The sessions took place in Documentary Studio, Moscow, originally designed as a cinema for Stalin but acoustically perfect for the purpose of orchestral recordings. A total of 23 musicians were involved in the recording sessions, spanning over 2 weeks and ranging from complete orchestral/quartet string recordings to individual instruments.

The NN19 patches can only be used in Reason but the 288 Rex files have been provided in a folder outside the Reason ReFill for use in other compatible applications such as Steinberg's Cubase VST. "Very dissatisfied. Stick with Orkester."
Overall: Most disappointing, this package is way more Dr. Rex loops than sample files; completely useless for those who wish to be original. The few ensemble string samples are okay, however they still sound very synthesized, and are doubled at the octave, which leaves less room for subtlety and can cause problems if you intend to score it later for a real ensemble. Violas are once again neglected and over-shadowed by Violins and Cellos; there are hardly any Viola samples. The solo strings don't compare to Vienna by any means, but they're decent for the price; still sound like samples. There are no harp samples; only DrRex-- again, useless. The only samples I really liked are the pizzicato and a couple of the synthy string pads, but they're not worth the price of the entire package. Overall, I still find Orkester a much reliable ReFill package.
