Manufacturer's Description for Novation ReMOTE 25 USB MIDI Controller
Novation Remote 25 USB MIDI Controller 2-Octave MIDI Controller with Semi-Weighted and Aftertouch responsive Keyboard Novation haven't just re-written the book with the new Remote 25 controller. - Ripped it up and started again is more like it. We've made it truly portable being mains or battery powered, we've given it one of the best semi-weighted keyboard actions around, we've engineered a programmable pitch / mod / control wheel which is a delight to use, we've integrated a cool 'touchpad' for wild performance effects and we've included dozens of pre-programmed templates for the most popular software plug-ins and traditional hardware instruments so you can use it straight out of the box. Remote 25 - Nothing can match this cute little tool for features, usability and value.
A semi-weighted two octave keyboard action with aftertouch. At the heart of the Remote 25 is a superb action, semi-weighted keyboard with aftertouch. Unlike many controllers, you can play your favourite software synth or sampler with the care and precise control that can make a huge difference to the final performance.
Hands on responsive control for every application The ergonomically designed front panel is inviting and simple to use. And it's all there - 8 rotary potentiometers, 8 sliders, 8 rotary encoders and 24 switches that are entirely programmable. All controls can be named and memorized as a collection with a group template name, then saved in any one of the 64 template memories.
Use anywhere portability and re-chargeable power Remote 25 may be powered by 6x C-size alkaline / rechargeable batteries or external mains PSU. When connected to a computer via USB, rechargeable batteries are charged without the need of a mains re-charger.
Colour Coded Ident Strips With most controllers which feature soft controls you never know which knob or which button controls which function. Not so with Remote 25 as it ships with loads of handy colored control identity strips which, when used with the pre-programmed templates makes for easy and intuitive control of the software application / plug-in. Additional strips are also in the box for you to customize to your own templates.
Massive set of 64 template memories with over 60 parameters To get up and running fast, the Remote 25 is shipped with over 50 user pre-programmed templates to control many popular hardware and software instruments. In addition you can create and save your own templates by combining any data from any preset.
X / Y Touchpad for total expression Indicative of Novation's forward thinking design is the Touchpad. Being fully assignable and programmable in both X (side-to-side) and Y (up-and-down), stunning and unique performance effects are just a finger-glide away. Imagine setting a distortion amount and a pan position on the left to right movement and an LFO speed and filter cut-off on the top to bottom movement - Total expressive and creative control.
Dedicated Transport Controls and fast template function buttons Total control over your sequencer's transport and locate functions are yours via the dedicated transport and four function button controls. Select a new template, scroll through templates, send snapshots, transmit a panic command, etc. this kind of instant flexibility will streamline your working practice.
Built In USB / MIDI Interface Just plug into the USB port, install the driver software and the Remote 25 is fully operational. Alternatively if your computer system does not have USB, then simply plug into the MIDI ports. The Remote 25 provides two MIDI Out ports, one MIDI thru port and one MIDI In port. Information originating from the Remote 25 keyboard or its controls can be sent directly to the USB port and / or any of the MIDI out ports. The MIDI ports can be used to integrate the rest of your MIDI gear into your computer system. Cool.

What Our Customers Are Saying About zZounds
"My shipment included a defective unit. After getting nowhere with the manufacturer, zZounds offered me free shipping and a discount on my next order as compensation. This is a classy operation." - customer on February 6th, 2012
"Finally, a MIDI controller worthy of the programs out there."
Sound:
The clicking of the keys is most pleasant.
Feature:
Doesn't come with an AC adapter, so if you're not planning on using the USB, you'll have to either go for batteries or buy the adapter. That said... this is it. Mousing your Reason s$$ks. The knobs are plenty. The keys feel awesome. This is the controller you've been waiting for if the offerings so far have felt, well, cheap.
Quality:
10 because I'd been waiting for something solid. This one made me happy.
Value:
If you don't have something to let you touch what's in your computer other than your mouse, the musician to techie ratio is whack. This keyboard pulls it together much better than the nearest competitor.
Thank you. Your vote has been counted. Could you briefly tell us why the review was or was not helpful?
"Novation Control Wonder"
Sound:
This is a MIDI controller... it doesn't produce sound, just MIDI control information for synths and soft synths.
Feature:
This is control paradise - read it and weep! 16 knobs, 8 sliders, 24 buttons + 5 transport control buttons, 4 function buttons, a mod/pitch joystick, an innovative X-Y touchpad controller, and last but by no means least, a 25-key semi-weighted keyboard. Very niiiiice!
Apart from all the controllers onboard, it is a nice plug-and-play unit able to pipe all these signals over a single USB 2.0 port. The other benefit of the USB port is that it provides power directly to the ReMote 25. A real plus if you want to plug into a laptop; imagine no addition power packs, or oodles of rechargeable batteries to lug around. But if you're still partial to your MIDI ports there are also two MIDI outs, a MIDI in and a thru port.
The addition of cardboard templates for each of the main three banks of sliders/knobs was a nice touch.
Even though the unit is made from injection moulded plastic, it is surprisingly beefy and solid. A good thing, if like me you are given to hammering the keyboard a little harder than necessary at an inspired moment. It's not the ultimate portable controller weight-wise, but I'm more than sure Novation didn't have this in mind for this unit. Perhaps we might see a battle-hardened LITE version in years to come.
My only real gripe with the unit was that a couple of the control knobs were poorly installed, and subsequently the pots did not move freely. I'll mark them down a point on the quality of finish on this one - but I must admit I had one of the first off the production line if the serial number was anything to go by. Still the warranty was worth its weight in gold here.
Quality:
See my other notes. My unit was only in the tens on the serial number run, and it had a few rough edges. I think if I'm going to spend the equivalent of a couple of weeks wages I want a finished product - not one that's 90% of the way there. A few more warranty claims might see them send off a Production Manager or two from their factory to learn Japanese production techniques.
Value:
Phenominal value for money! Puts other midi controllers to same. If they can iron out the production crinkles, they're onto a winner.
Manufacturer Support:
A big fat thanks to everyone who helped me over the teething problems - I finally got what I thought I was getting when I handed over my hard-earned cash. Better late than never I suppose.
The Wow Factor:
If you want to roll up a variety of contollers: eg. keyboard, knobs, sliders, midi interface... then this is the one. The fact there are numerous programmable banks, and presets for common soft synths is another plus for the user who wants to get up and running in an instant.
Overall:
If I didn't have the initial teething problems, this one would have rated a 10, well... maybe a 9.8! Nothings perfect after all.
