The AVT150H is the head version of the AVT150 and boasts all the same features and facilities as its combo brother. This includes the excellent "Scoop" facility. On OD1 this radically scoops the mid frequencies whilst tightening the bass for aggressive driving rhythm sounds. On OD2 the middle is again dipped, but a cut in the upper frequencies smoothes out the sound for a more bass heavy ("Nu") Metal selection.

Driving the AVT412A (angled) and AVT412B (straight), 4x12 in., 200-watt, Celestion loaded cabinets, this 4-channel head brings absolute flexibility and forms the ultimate stage rig. For an even more imposing set-up, the AVT150H can drive standard 1960 4x12 in. cabinets. As with the AVT150 combo, the head also features a Headphone Jack, Speaker Emulated Line-Out, Effects Loop with level control, and FX Mix Control.

What is AVT
In Marshall's quest to give players the ultimate tone at a realistic price, they have combined the latest innovations in valve, solid state, and digital technologies to achieve optimum sonic performance. AVT has evolved from their original, critically acclaimed Marshall Valvestate technology, but is vastly improved so it emulates the tone, feel, and response of their world-renowned, all-valve amplifiers with unerring accuracyá without using valves in the power stage.

Marshall's long history and experience in the field of valve amplification was utilized in the development of the new AVT power amp. This extremely responsive and warm sounding circuitry was then coupled with the specially voiced, ECC83 (a.k.a 12AX7) valve driven pre-amp section, to provide 100% valve/analog warmth from input to output. Combined with numerous user-friendly features, they believe we've created the best value-for-money range of Marshall amplifiers ever!

Valve Drive Pre-Amp
From the compact AVT20, right up to the thunderous roar of the feature packed, 4-channel AVT150H, each model in their brand new AVT line boasts a pre-amp stage that is driven by an ECC83 Dual Triode valve. Unlike certain other hybrid amps out there, this valve isn't merely acting as a pilot light. Instead it is playing the central role in the gain, distortion, and tone-generating circuitry. They have gone to great lengths to ensure that this precious device delivers maximum sonic benefit at all settings and volume levels. The resulting clean sounds ring with the bell-like harmonics that only a valve pre-amp can deliver and the break-up is never harsh or unnatural sounding. Whenever you select an AVT Overdrive channel, the ECC83 is saturated to its limit, providing dynamics and feel worthy of a place in the Marshall hall of fame.

Power Amp Delivery
The same, unrivalled design expertise that went into the pre-amp was also channeled into the design of the AVT power stage. Using frequency dependent power amp damping and their proprietary, dynamic clip level technology (which emulates the HT supply of a valve power amp), each AVT power stage creates the warm, musical feel and 3-dimensional sounds that made Marshall's all-valve power amps world-renowned. Also, all AVT products will deliver the goods in the often hostile and unpredictable environment of the live performance stage - which is why the AVT power amps of 50 watts and up are fan cooled for optimum reliability.

DFX Onboard
The AVT100, AVT150, AVT150H, and AVT275 all have on-board DFX (Digital Effects). Here the greatest care was taken to ensure that the highest level of signal integrity was maintained at all times. They achieved this by successfully integrating DFX into the tonal topology of AVT without adding any of the nasty-sounding, artificial "grain" often associated with DFX. To make the 16, custom-voiced DFX as controllable and user friendly as possible the relevant models are all supplied with an LED equipped foot controller which allows you to switch the amp's DFX on and off, as well as change channels.

The flexibility of the AVT150, AVT150H, and AVT275 is further enhanced by having 2 DFX sections, 1 for the Clean and Acoustic Simulator channels, and the other for the 2 Overdrive channels.

"a great amp with a few minor flaws"
Feature:
ok, this is a nice 4 channel amp with lots of effects. Problem is, you can only use one effect at a time for clean channel and for dirty channel. It is nice that you can select one for each but I tend to use more than one effect throughout the night, so if I did not have a pedal board, you would have to continually go to the amp and change the settings everytime. Not fun. I don;t understand why Marshall hasn't manufactured a foot controller that would allow you to take full advantage of these effects at will. Another area I have a problem with is the foot controller. Really nice but uses a midi cable. I don't know that this will stand up to the beating of a regular cable. So far so good but we will see what happens. The scoop feature on the distortion channels are really nice. However, I would rather see them dump the effects, add a standard reverb and maybe a seperate channel for the overdrive, and a seperate channel for the overdrive with the mids scooped

Quality:
I give this an 8 for 2 reasons. 1, the midi cable for the foot controller. Something just bothers me about that. It hasn't broke yet but I am being extra careful with it. 2, the head is not as wide as the typical marshall head. I am running it through a 1960A cab and the grooves for the feet are about an inch or two outside of the feet on the AVT150 so it has the tendency to slide a bit.

Value:
I think this amp is well worth the money I gave for it. Of course it is not all tube, but it still sounds great. The only recommendation I will give is to stay away from the cab that goes with it and get a 1960A or B cab. The one that is suppose to go with it is very poorly built. Will review that later.

Desirability:
It's an amp. It has no sex appeal unless you turn it up loud enough and stand in front of it.

Sound:
The sound quality is great. You can get a traditional marshall sound, or something close to a mesa if you like the standards. There is also room to create your own combination of sound. The acoustic channel is a nice touch as well. My only complaint is the FX loop. For some reason, unless my pedal has an level control, it is REALLY faint. For example, Boss tremelo and phase shifter are barely noticable, but my chorus pedal sounds great because I can turn it up. Might be me because I usually plug into the front end, but that is my only complaint about sound.

Support:
Tried finding a number to call them about the FX Loop on their website but had no luck. Luckily the answers@zzounds.com guys were nice enough to provide me with a number. BTW, those guys are great, have yet to ask them a question they could not answer, or direct me to someone who could answer.

Overall:
Overall this is not a bad amp. I think it is great for someone who gigs regularly and wants a little more than a combo but cannot afford an all tube head. I just wish they would have made the head a standard size and got rid of the midi cable connection for the foot controller.

Never thought about an amp having "sex appeal" Always wanted one,it's just a "practial addition" for me,a tool of the trade if you will!

Sound:
I bought this head because when I first started playing Marshall was what I always wanted! Now some 30 yrs.later I finally own a Marshall! For the type of music I play it works out for me It produces nice clean tone, gives that surfer type sound(that we all listened to in the early 60's)to the heavy metal, hard rock, and just plain ole rock I've not been dissappointed with it! I pipe it thru 2 Ampeg 4-12 cabs.everyone that hears it LIKES the sound it produces! How to make it sound better?(WHY)Unless you purchase the OVERPRICED Marshall cabs for it I belive this thing will rock the house, any where!I would recomend Marshall to any one,and would prefer it over ANY amp including Mesa Boogie any day! IF YA WANNA ROCK,MARSHALL IS WHAT TO DO IT WITH!!

Support:
NOT YET! I've owned it for only 2 1/2 yrs it's been alright so far!

Overall:
Don't feel I need to search for anything else! Yes I have a Fender Stage 100,BUT it was replaced with this Marshall AVT 150H There is nothing I don't like about it!!
