The MXL DRK Desktop Recording Kit is a fully self contained, universal tool kit providing music recording capabilities for all home and studio audio recording formats. The DRK is perfect for recording vocals, instruments and for voice-over speech to liven home CD and DVD video recordings, location sound effects and field audio recordings.

The MXL microphone included in the Desktop Recording Kit is the first truly professional microphone designed for the computer user. Unlike budget electret-type microphones commonly marketed for computer audio, or dynamic microphones (which are common to sound reinforcement applications), the cardioid condenser is the studio standard the world over. The DRK microphone has a wide frequency range (30 Hz - 20 kHz), making it well suited for a broad spectrum of audio and music applications, and its cardioid pickup pattern, which is more sensitive to sound waves arriving at the front of the microphone as opposed to those arriving from the sides or rear, make this microphone an exceptional recording tool, with true studio quality.

The MXL Desktop Recording Kit includes all the necessary accessories to ensure seamless integration into a wide assortment of recording environments. With its XLR cable, the DRK microphone will connect to professional microphone preamplifiers, mixing consoles, or computer audio interfaces. The included XLR to Mini-Plug adapter cable enables easy connection to computer sound cards or other consumer audio equipment that utilize 3.5mm Mini-Plugs. And with the included 3.5mm Mini-Plug to 1/4 in. adapter, the DRK microphone will interface perfectly with self-contained recording studios that commonly use the 1/4 inch phone plug standard. The microphone is completely self-powered, so there is no need for costly preamplifiers or external power supplies. "Desktop set Review:READ ME"

Sound: I didn't like the sound so i am getting a higher quality of microphone. At least for the level of sound quality i was getting it wasn't worth the price. I am a pop artist so i recorded some vocals and was unimpressed by the quality. I haven't recorded a simple speech track but it may be decent for that kind of usage. If you are using it though distance is key. I would suggest test-recording at different distances to find the best for your voice. Feature: The stand is not very reliable. If I had decided to use this mic more, I would try to get a nice shock mount. I was also disappointed that this product, being a condenser therefore needing a windscreen, didn't include one. I was, however, happy that it had a direct XLR to computer mic input jack. Ease of Use: I didn't use this product to record instruments. But I did find it rather difficult to get great sound quality in a short amount of time. Quality: I recommend keeping a few extra 9 volts on hand. This product has a nice look. Value: no. Manufacturer Support: I have not. Overall: I planned to buy a new one a day later.

Overall: It works and sounds fine. All the parts are durable enough. Should be fine for basic recording straight to a sound card if you don't want to get a preamp or mixer.
