For this release, the Gibson Custom Shop has closely reconstructed an original high-end SG -- a model that's remained in production for over 50 years and redefined the solidbody electric guitar along the way.

Huge SG Tone

The Gibson SG has always been defined by its bold and biting tone. The use of solid mahogany for the body with a deep set mahogany neck fosters that classic Gibson sustain, while an ebony fingerboard gives a crisp snap to round out the tonal picture. The Gibson Custom Shop has outfitted this edition with three '57 Classic humbuckers closely modeled on the game-changing 'PAF' pickups introduced in the mid-'50s. The Gibson SG Custom Limited Edition Electric Guitar is a historically accurate reissue of the original model of 50 years ago! When first introduced in 1961 as the new Les Paul, the designers at Gibson couldn't have known the SG, or 'Solid Guitar', would become the rock guitar icon that it is today. The thinner, lighter design with radical pointed horns and beveled edges was a fresh new look that many players immediately gravitated to. This amazing SG Custom replica features three '57 Classic humbuckers for huge tone and a beefier look, classy gold hardware, and a super rare Pelham Blue finish, emitting loads of cool vintage vibe that is sure to turn some heads!

Body and Finish

Players like Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Angus Young, Frank Zappa, Tony Iommi and bottleneck prodigy Derek Trucks have all fallen in love with the looks and the sound of the mahogany bodied Gibson SG. The SG Custom Limited Edition features that same classic mahogany body that allows for great resonance and vibration, creating a huge sound with great bite, a tone that is instantly recognizable. The classic small white pickguard with gold screws looks great against the Pelham Blue finish, one of the most unique, rare, and beloved finishes from Gibson. A nice touch is the 'Les Paul Custom' engraving at the neck joint, just like the originals!

Pickups and Electronics

Not one. Not two. But three Gibson '57 Classic humbuckers give the SG Custom Limited Edition that warm and complex PAF tone with amazing power and versatility. These pickups covers are gold like the other hardware, giving a very elegant look that combines great with the Pelham Blue finish. The classic layout of two volume and two tone controls along with a three position toggle switch gives you all the biting lead tone, funky jangle, and bluesy warm tones you have come to expect in a Gibson SG.

Hardware

The development of the ABR-1 bridge by Gibson in the '50s was a huge advance in the electric guitar, allowing for precise intonation of each and every string. The Gibson SG Custom Limited Edition features this ABR-1 bridge which works perfectly in conjunction with the standard stop tailpiece. The combination of these two pieces are favored for their improved sustain and tone, and of course they are finished in gold. Vintage 'tulip' tuners add to the vintage look and give great smoothness and hold their tune very well.

Neck and Fingerboard

When the '60s rolled around players were calling for a slimmer and faster neck, and Gibson delivered! The SG Custom Limited Edition features that slim-taper mahogany neck that has set the standard in comfort and is still favored by many guitarists today. The historically accurate long neck tenon allows the neck and body to vibrate more as one piece of wood, giving great sustain and a very big tone. A fully bound ebony fingerboard with real pearl block inlays adds even more bite that SG's are known for, this makes for massive chords that cut through the mix. The headstock features a distinctive Custom Series split diamond pearl inlay and has 'Les Paul Custom' engraved on the truss rod cover, matching with the neck joint.
