Sound: I am generally very impressed by the sound quality this microphone delivers. It is sensitive enough for good sound pick-up but not so sensitive that it is overpowered by ambient noise. Used with the proper filters it gives a sound as good as some of the top of the line mics out there. All this for a ridiculously low price. Feature: The microphone came with a desk stand. The stand is made of solid cast iron and heavy enough to give a solid base for the mic. I would describe the base as a baby version of the “Atlas” table mic stand that has been around for eons. The package also included a pair of headphones (AHP1) and these perform very well. Good solid construction and are perfect for home or small studio use. I do not use the Audacity Audio software as I am a great fan of Reaper. Ease of Use: Set up of the mic was a snap. Win 7 loaded the drivers and Reaper saw them immediately. Level control is conveniently on the front of the microphone. The little red light indicated that the mic. is live ( although not record sensitive.) Quality: The quality of this product is in general well above what one would expect for the price. The body of the mic is made of metal and as I said earlier the stand is excellent, even the rubber shock mount is substantial. This is not a product that is designed for use on the road, but I would not hesitate to use it for a remote recording with my laptop. As to thge electronics, I have not used it long enough to be able to evaluate them here. Value: Worth much more than the price. Manufacturer Support: Alesis gives excellent support. I dealt with them when I set up a community radio station and they stood behind their products 100%. Phone support was courteous and responsive. Overall: There is only one additional feature that would get me to buy another product, that is the ability to directly monitor the audio output of the microphone. There is no way to hear your voice without getting the delay that is inherent with going through the computer sound card. This added feature would enable me to better monitor my own voice quality.

Overall: I just purchased this Alesis USB microphone podcasting kit from zZounds, and even though I'm new at podcasting and this is the first microphone I've tried, the sound quality is excellent, it's very simple to use & I'm happy that I chose this mic! I was also very happy with the fast & great service from zZounds -- I would purchase from zZounds again. By the way, I don't normally write reviews, but I just was so happy with the microphone (which I bought as a Christmas present for myself -- :-) ), and since it bought it based on a review, I thought I'd return the favor & review it for anyone else looking to buy a microphone for podcasting. I'm a newbee and know nothing about audio recording -- but I'm very impressed with how easy this kit was to set up & use, and also the great quality of the recording!
