Sound: Not much on features but frankly doesn't need them. The roll off switch is a nice touch but I rarely use it. I love it with a decent pre on acoustic guitar. But it sounds great on most vocals. If you can only have two mics in your home studio this and an SM 57 and you are golden. I have used it for live vocals and as an ambient mic for a dramatic reading. You name it. I am about to try it on a guitar cab and see if it can handle the SPLs. It sucked on a kick (couldn’t handle the SPLs) but is fine on hats. Ease of Use: As with any mic, how you address the source is importand but not nearly as important and most mics Quality: I have had it for years and it has been very reliable. Manufacturer Support: Good news... no experience with support cause it don't break The Wow Factor: I wish I had another.

"It ain't a Neuman, but it sure beats the pants off 98 percent of the Chinese specials I see people bragging up."

Sound: The C3000B gets accused of being very brittle. I think if you use the wrong microphone for the wrong application you wont like it and might suggest that as the meat of the issue. The C3000B is much cleaner than 90 percent of the Chinese mics out there, but let a couple of guys jump on the cheap China mic bandwagon and all of a sudden everything form MXL to Studio Projects is getting cudos. If you have a friend who has engineered anything besides hip hop, pop, rock and five piece bands go check out his C3000B up against your favorite Asian Kmart microphone. Feature: The C3000 and B versions have been in and out of the market for years and I am betting we haven't seen the end of them. The kits cone in a variety of variations including stand mounts, shock mounts, cases, etc. Ease of Use: This mic requires little EQ and on bright instruments arranged in varying distances the C3000B is very clean. I would not recommend the mic for fat sounding instruments or use the microphone to cheese up the high end on instruments that hang out in the lower registers Quality: For most home and semi pro project studios AKG and AT get the prize. Although there are a few Asian microphones that are fair, perhaps respectable in the context of limited use microphones, I just don't think the Asians are there in terms of audio quality or consistency across a product line. However, the Asians have been very good about great cosmetics and convincing many to sacrifice their audio standards for the sake of looking cool in the studio. For me, I'll take a few of the beat up old classics, including the C3000's and 3000B's and make some pretty decent sound. I'll find other tools to use to impress the groupies *grin Value: As the price of the C3000 series drops the mics represent a good value for the cost. Again, AKG seems to be a little lacking in being proactive where competitions is a factor. If AKG can work up a formula to keep the C series competitive against newer product they should do great. I am concerned about this trend of great manufacturers going to China for contemporary manufacturing. The quality is just not consistent over the ocean Manufacturer Support: I have to say the #1 company in product support has to be RODE. AKG is good, but their inflated pricing in support (ie parts and accessories) is a little bit much. Anyone who thinks one of those plastic shock mounts is worth a hundred bucks ought to have his head examined. Thank God the Asians make decent cheap shockmounts, eh? I have had some AKG service and the turn around is not bad. However, they will cut you absolutely no slack when it comes to paying the bill. They think their work is gold and this is the one thing that really chips away at a solid reputation. The Wow Factor: The C300B is not much on sex appeal and this is one thing that seems to hurt the product. I don't get why aspiring engineers think a mic is cool based on how pretty it looks - especially considering that a microphone is about audio and not about sleek and sexy. I hope to God Neuman never has to go there. Overall: I have used the C series as part of my arsenal for years and as long as the quality and electronics hold up I am a happy camper. I have tinkered with a few of the Asian products and even the best of them have not convinced me that the Chinese get it.
