"Great value for good features and a very versatile guitar."

Feature:
Comes with everything you need including the alen wrenches. The bridge isn't the best Edge you can buy, but it works well and it's fun to have a floater. Requires more setup time and thuroughness but in the end offers so many advantages and feels great to play.

Quality:
THe finish is light on the back of the neck, which is actually kind of nice cause it gives you a clearer look at the finish. On the body the finish is a dark dark purple on flame maple that I think looks ****in sweet. But some nickel-covered pickups in there and that is as sharp as a guitar gets in my opinion (unles you're talking customs of course). It's solid, the guitar itself is as durable as it gets, but the bridge is a floater so have a backup guitar. The knobs and switch are very secure and should cause no probelms for a long time.

Value:
The body of thsi guitar is simply top-quality. The bridge is nearly as good a floater as you could want. Just replace the pickups and you have what is basically a high-end gig capable guitar at less than $1,000. The JEM guitars are better, but the value on this thing blows them away. Korean guitars are not to be scoffed at for their quality, and the Japanese really aren't superiour in making their products in any way (the JEMs just have some nicer parts is all). If you want to be patriotic, buy American, if you want this guitar that plays so well for such value, you'll have to swallow you're national pride a lil' bit and forget anything you mave have heard or read on abusive labor practices, but it'll feel alright in the end.

Desirability:
Looks great, plays great, great features, just needed to change those INF pickups and my guitar is a thing of great beauty. I'm starting a classic rock cover band (currently missing one or two person's of talent), and I've been playing for 10+ years. Never has playing been such a joy before I got this.

Sound:
Solid sounding guitar. The wood and neck-thru design is sweet and the five-way switch is nice, but change the pickups to suit your needs. The 'infinities' were too muffled for my taste, the highs just weren't distinct enough. I switched to a set of clean sounding Duncans. It's now the best sounding guitar I've ever played. Very sharp sounding, solos like a dream.

Support:
Ibanez's web-site is pretty informative and they responded to an e-mail of mine in less than 24 hours. I've never had to order a replacement part yet. Can't find a reason to complain.

Overall:
Again I do love how this guitar feels to play, the neck and bridge are real quality. I would consider getting another if need be, although I'd aim for a JEM I think.

Ibanez RGT42DXFM Customer Review

Feature:
There's not really any missing features. The pickup selection is more than I'll ever need. Neckthrough is great. Mahogany body. An ebony fretboard would be nice but not in this price range.

Quality:
I don't expect the quality to be bleeding edge on a lower priced guitar. Originally I looked at the RGT42 series over a year ago before I bought my JEM Jr. and found the quality to be lacking. The binding wasn't great and the neck wasn't that smooth. The latest version has much improved quality. There are few areas that could be improved. The bridge is ok. The tremelo bar is really skimpy. A couple screws are not quite perfectly straight.

Value:
The value of this guitar is high. The quality of workmanship is higher than expected and it just plays nice. Having a mahogany body and neckthrough make this guitar (to some poeple) more valuable than the lower end prestige models.

Desirability:
The Prestige models seem to be more directed at an older crowd in their looks (probably due to the price). I've been waiting for shark tooth inlays to come back in style for a while now and here they are. Now more than just the RG250DX have them. The finish on the guitar is really nice. Flat transparent. It looks black with little light, purplish with a bit more light, and more blue/lavendar (like it's supposed to be) in daylight.

Sound:
This guitar sounds great. A lot better than my JEM 555 with the exception of the pickups. The pickups sound great for single strings and the guitar's sustain is amazing but power chords sound a little muddy and not well defined (more noticeable when recording). I've returned my JEM Jr to stock Dimarzio's and removed the EMG which will go into this guitar.

Ease of Use:
Excellent to play. Very nice action. The looks caught my eye right away but the guitar plays great which is why I bought it.

Support:
I've never dealt with Ibanez customer support.

Overall:
I think I'll be happy with this guitar for a while. If something happened to it down the road I would get another (unless something better came along). I will probably end up replacing both pickups and the bridge in the future (after I sell my JEM jr).
