"Stay away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1"

Feature:
Coming from a DAW I was suprised to be able to add as many tracks as 24 with effects on a stand alone. The most useful features to me are the mic effects with available preset compression and reverb etc..... The CD burner is a nice touch as i was determined to get a good premaster to a mastering house without using pro tools! It's me against the world.

Quality:
Take this toi a gig and you'll be the laughing stock of the city! It's not reliable. I'm on my second unit in less than 40 days and that too was shipped to the factory yesterday at my expense. It seems that if they do fix it the unit will spit out another bug in another couple of months.

Value:
It seems this product was rushed to the shelves. It's cheap and it acts that way.

Desirability:
It looks good to me. Easily integrated but boy I would be scared to take it on the road because it feels light and well.....plastic.

Sound:
Going with a 7 because the darn thing never worked long enough to get to mixdown ad premastering. The dry recording sounds good with a good signal to noise ratio but I'm no engineer.

Ease of Use:
The manualsucks. If you get the basics you can record immediatley the interface is simple but sometimes menus kick you right out to the home page vice the previous page when you want to back up and there you are going back through sub menus. It is extremely easy for me to get the sound I want.

Support:
I'm a pretty easy going guy. But had I showed how upset I was and I have the right to be I probably would have gotten a bad reception. Most people on the second unit and expecting a third in less than 40 days would ask WTF? All that being said, the factory manager was a good guy and very attentive to my concerns. His receptionist is a (insert your favorite curse here)

Overall:
I will ride this thing until the warranty falls off and then I'll bury. I wouldn't even sell it to some poor kid with big dreams so he could hit this brick wall. I will never buy TASCAM again. I wish there were more reviews on the MK2 when I bought it. I chose this beacuse it has 24 tracks a decent effects section and the price point. If stolen I would pissed that I lost $800.00 but I'd be leieved that the headache was gone. I have this thing or two of them for what 35 days or so and it's been down for a weeki and I probably won't get it back for three more weeks!

"Worst piece of junk I have ever purchased."

Feature:
Has alot of features but you can't use any of them when it's locked up.

Quality:
See above.

Value:
I wouldn't take another one if somebody gave it to me.

Desirability:
See above.

Sound:
Like everybody else I keep getting the "error 04" code and it locks up. It also does othe weird things.

Ease of Use:
Cant't use it. It's in the shop (1 1/2 hours away from Nashville)

Support:
I have dealt with them and just from that experience alone I will never buy another Tascam product again.

Overall:
The name says it all. taSCAM.

From Our Catalog
Way way back in 1979, when Tascam introduced the first 4-track cassette tape Portastudio, they were also helping set the professional audio industry standard for recording tracks: 24. Like the Portastudio, 24 recording tracks caught on, becoming the primary creative tool for artists and producers worldwide. Was then. Still is. Only now everyone can have access to that magic number of tracks. Twenty-five years after the first Portastudio comes the incredible 2488. It's by far the most affordable 24-track recording and mixing workstation ever made for home studios - and the only model within 3X its price range that can truly run 24 tracks at 24-bits/ 44.1kHz. Eight inputs can be simultaneously recorded into the XLR and 1/4 in. inputs. Twenty physical faders control the mixdown channels; each channel has 3-band EQ and access to three built-in effects processors. A 40GB internal hard disk gives the user ample space for 20 to 30 24-track songs and virtual tracks for comping. Plus the 2488 has a USB 2.0 port for back-up via home computer.

Features:
3-band EQ on 24 channels, 8-inputs, tone generator and stereo bus with high and low sweepable shelving bands and full parametric mid band

3 aux sends on all channels except the effects return

Loop effect provides reverb, delay, chorus and more on an aux send and return

Assignable Guitar multi-effects processor for distortion, chorus, delay, flange and more

Up to 8 assignable dynamics processors for compression during recording or mixdown

Dedicated Stereo Compressor on the stereo output

8 inputs: 4 XLR with phantom power double as 1/4 in. mic/line inputs, plus four dedicated 1/4 in. mic/line inputs

20 x 45mm faders including master fader

LCD display for viewing meters and edit parameters

CD-RW drive to record Red Book CDs, import/export WAV files and backup hard drive

64-voice General MIDI sound module

Standard MIDI File player

High-speed USB 2.0 jack connects to PC or Mac for data backup and SMF/WAV file
Real 24-track recording with the simplicity and affordability of an analog Portastudio, plus the power of digital editing and processing! The 2488 has 4 XLR combo mic/line/instrument inputs and 4 more 1/4" line inputs. All 8 analog inputs can record simultaneously. A USB 2.0 jack makes for quick data backup on your Mac or PC. With a 40GB hard drive, the 2488 provides ample space for 20 to 30 24-track songs. Need to store them elsewhere? Burn a CD on the internal CD-R drive or put that USB to use! Guitar effects and a General MIDI sound module are onboard for quick music-making. With 20 faders, 8 assignable dynamics processors, digital multi-effects, plus 3-band EQ and 3 aux sends on every channel, the 2488 makes mixdown a delight--and keeps the creativity at your fingertips.
