Feature:
The fact that this came with a full version of Cubase S4 makes this a incredible deal as far as features go. The Digital Mixer included in the Software is also pretty stout! Audio/Digital in, DAW in 1/2,3/4,5/6, and a Master mix control. Nice features! The kit also comes with lot's of software Plug-in's and demos-which is a nice gesture.
Quality:
The external case is extryded aluminum and has raised ridges that actually help with heat dissipation. The knobs are solid and have a lot of "profile" that allow you to get a good grip on them. They also have raised ridges for ease of grip and they "feel" very robust when turning. The unit seems very well made and I would have no issue throwing into a backpack and taking it with me for mobile applicational use.
Value:
Did I mention that this comes with Cubase Studio 4? Not Cubase LE-it's the actual FULL version of CS4! For $20.00 extra!! If you are wondering how Yamaha can do this and still turn a profit, well, let's just say that Yamaha owns a little company named Steinberg! ;o)
Thank you Yamaha for making it possible for the "little guy" to get into the music for little more than a "song"-sorry for the Pun!
Sound:
The sound that the GO46 sends to my monitors is clean and crisp. NO hiss or crackling. The gain knobs don't leave you wanting more (or less)and the Beautiful Blue LED's will show a red color when clipping.
Ease of Use:
I was up and running on my DAW and playing/recording my synth into Cubase S4 in less than an hour. The install was a breeze. I did have a bit of trouble getting the input's and outputs customized for my specific studio application but that is expected of any new interface. Yamaha has it figured out as far as miking it a fairly painless experiance. The GO46 can also be set-up as the "default" Soundcard on your CPU which makes things easier to get up and running fast!
Overall:
I plan on keeping this bugger till it dies. The Fire-Wire technology is most likely here for a long time and it works well! This module is a great choice for the Producer/Musician on-the-go or the Home Studio thug that needs help! The GO46 works well, looks good (with it's Black and Silver motiff), and sounds excellent! Yamaha has "done good" again and I expect nothing less from them. Even if this baby breaks, I will not hesitate to go out and replace it ASAP.
