Optional digital audio and sync expansion for Dakota.

In the past, expanding the number of audio input and output channels in a computer-based audio workstation was an expensive and difficult problem. Frontier Design Group means to change all that.

Meet Montana, an inexpensive expansion card that doubles Dakota's optical I/O to an impressive 32 inputs and 32 outputs! Like Dakota, Montana has 2 pairs of ADAT optical ports, providing 16 input and output channels, all with 24-bit resolution.

Montana includes additional synchronization features that are normally found in expensive external hardware synchronization boxes. An RCA input synchronizes the computer to an external video signal (NTSC or PAL) or to an external audio word clock. Video sync can also come from an internal header, for direct connection to a digital video board. Montana also has an ADAT 9-pin sync output. For maximum flexibility, Montana features a dual-slot layout so it can be installed in either a PCI or ISA slot next to Dakota.

Digital audio inputs: 16 channels, ADAT optical format on 2 TOSLINK connectors; either can be switched to 2-channel SPDIF optical format in the Dakota Control Panel

Digital audio outputs: 16 channels, ADAT optical format on 2 TOSLINK connectors; either or both can be switched to 2-channel SPDIF optical format in the Dakota Control Panel

External video sync or word clock: RCA connector (phono) with RCA/BNC adapter included, jumpered 75-ohm termination

Internal video sync or word clock: 2-pin connector with 0.1 in. spacing between pins, pin 1 active, pin 2 ground

ADAT sync output: DB-9 connector

SMPTE timecode any audio input (or output) can be used for receiving (or sending) SMPTE timecode, as specified in the Dakota Control Panel

Sample rates: 44.1 and 48 kHz internal, Varispeed and input tracking from 39-51 kHz,
Driver resampling for 8, 11.025, 16, 22.05, 32 kHz rates

Audio data: 8, 16, 20, 24-bit resolution

System requirements: Dakota, additional PCI or ISA slot, Windows 95/98
