iZotope Trash Effect is a 64-bit distortion, filter, delay and amp sim effect with a memorable sound and name provided in the form of a DirectX plug-in. For guitarists recording direct, Trash provides over 85 box, cabinet and speaker models -- ranging from standard amp classics to stacks to experimental designs. Combined with 45 overdrive and distortion models -- 12AX7 tubes, 6L6 tubes, transistors, fuzz, rectifiers, and more -- you can make Trash sound as good, bad, real or unreal as you want. Trash goes beyond a typical "guitar amp simulator" effect, though. With multi-band distortion, sweeping filters and emulations of classic delays it can be effectively applied to bass, vocals, drums as well.

Trash Features:
48 distortion types ranging from tube overdrive to the fuzz of germanium transistors. Chain pairs of distortions together for sonic destruction at 64-bit precision, or split the signal into multiple bands and apply distortion independently to individual frequencies.

Realistic modeling of 85 amp cabinets and speakers. Classics, combos, boutique models, stacks... a tone and character for any occasion.

36 filters that can be LFO or envelope triggered through a unique graphical display. Synth filters, resonant filters, classic analog filters and more.

Multi-band dynamics and gating to control the peaks and tame the noise.

Trash the echo with a selection of classic lo-fi delays. Tape delay with saturation and nonlinear tape machine artifacts, tape-tube delay with added read more tube saturation modeling, classic analog delay with analog degradation and Lo-fi digital delay with quantization noise and aliasing.

History and Undo features, dedicated preset manager with dozens of drum, guitar and bass presets, spectrum and level meters, and DirectX automation in applications such as Cakewalk SONAR, Sonic Foundry Vegas 4 and Sonic Foundry Acid 4.

"SONAR was the greatest thing to happen to my studio"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I'll keep this until Cakewalk releases version 3.0.
Sound
Sonar is a transparent audio application. What I mean by that is it doesn't color my audio when I record. Well that is unless I want it to :)
Features
I find the overall interface, audio tools, ACID loop support, integrated synths, and deep MIDI editing the most useful features. The bonus plug-ins in XL are very useful. I'm now using it's rewire support to work with project5 and Reason, and that is also working well. Least useful would probably be the light version of the Live Synth Pro because after a month you can only use small size SF banks. It would have been better with VST support, but I have the adapter for that and it works fine for me.
Quality
I found a few bugs in the initial 2.0 version, but now that 2.2 is out, It's been smooth sailing.
Value
I wish this were around 10 years ago when I spent thousands of dollars to get about 1% of the capabilities found in Sonar.
Manufacturer Support
I haven't really needed service or support so I guess that's the best it could be.
The Wow Factor
The features make it sexy, but I guess it could look a little sexier. Does that really matter though?
