This is a great recorder for the price. I previously just had a Zoom H4n Pro and was pretty satisfied with it, especially considering the size and portability, which are important on the field, etc. I was looking to upgrade from the H4n Pro and immediately looked at the F4. I also looked at the Mix-Pre 3, but after looking at both products, the F4 looked to be better for my needs and the value. While there's a lot packed into the relatively small body, and the LCD interface can be a little hard to read at times - such minor "inconveniences" do not take away from the quality and options on the F4. While the Mix-Pre 3 does have slightly more gain, the F4 features a lot of additional configuration opportunities and does not require that much time to configure, especially if you have owned a Zoom product in the past. I use it with RE-20's and SM7b's, so demanding microphones, and the handy camera mount makes it useful on top of a professional camcorder. I do use a Cloudlifter with the mic's that I normally use (RE-20/SM7b's), and I never have to go above +50dB of gain on the inputs. Extremely clean sound. Works a charm as an audio interface as well, with clear loopback settings and a ton of config. Overall, very accurate, and well worth the price for the sheer functionality packed inside!
