I'm not a church or gospel drummer. I'm actually pretty far removed from that environment. However I did come across demos of this cymbal pack on YouTube and liked what I heard. I'm more of a rock drummer if I had to choose one genre. These would be great for about anything besides jazz where you'd want some darker pies. The 17 inch Fast Crash and 18 inch FX cymbal are very cool. They're thin and easy to activate so you don't have to bash them. They are actually kind of low pitched because of the thin weights, but they have a crispness to them with a quicker decay than a traditional crash cymbal. The FX cymbal has a trashy kind of sound almost like a China cymbal. The Fast Crash really explodes and gets out of the way. I'm really impressed with these. The Mastersound hats are pretty cool. They have a great foot chick sound, probably because the rippled edge on the bottom hat. They're pretty responsive and have a variety of sounds depending on how closed you keep the hats. They're brighter than my old New Beats hats, but not in a harsh or bad way. Having a brighter more present set of hats is a nice change of pace. Finally the 21 inch Anniversary medium thin ride. The demos made it sound like it would have more ping than the one I received in a pack. In that way it was a little disappointing, but I do like the cymbal. It sounds really good, just washier than expected. The bell sound is really good (no harsh donk when you wail on it) and it has an incredible crash sound. For comparison I have a Sweet Ride, an A Medium Ride, and a Sabian Hand Hammered Dry Ride. It's definitely the washiest of all these and as you'd expect the best crash sound beating even the Sweet Ride. I'd consider this more of a crash ride. I know there are a lot of people that never really "ride" the ride and use it more as a big crash and this thing is great for that. You can easily find out how much they've increased in price over the past couple of years (which is a bummer). Still I think they're worth the price and would recommend them even if they're not the amazing deal they once were.
