First of all I was hoping that the "burst" on this bass wasn't to bright, I like darker myself. Much to my joy, the bass is actually even DARKER red in person & has been referred to as "blood" red by my counterparts. It is indeed a beautiful piece to behold. Just pull it out of the box & it's ready to go. The hardware is solid & easy to touch. It has a great balancing point. After playing on it for more than 2 weeks now, I must say it's a complete joy & one of the best Basses in this price range I have ever played. I'm not quick to judge, but after over 30 years with this instrument & being an aggressive finger player......I can say with confidence that this thing is a beast. And, as always zZounds was there to make sure my order was delivered fast and safe.

I ordered the Natural Satin version. I'm only on day one. The "Direct" tone of the bass was initially underwhelming. Typical of a brand new 34" scale B string, and perhaps due to the hardness of my fingertips, I get unwanted harmonics out of the lower notes that require left hand muting to tame... OR, the right amp/cab combination. I've just played for a few hours through my Pod Go so far, but if you own one, or a Helix, or an HX Stomp.. try the Agua 51 amp simulation paired with the SVT 810 cabinet. That experience left me completely impressed. This bass is for one, very pretty. I mean very pretty. The top wood looks gorgeous as well as the matching headstock. Looking at the back of the body I had to take a good look to be able to tell it's a two piece. I love the stripes of the 5 piece neck. I'm not usually a fan of rosewood, I would have preferred a maple fingerboard. However, it's still pretty. The Satin finish feels amazing to touch. I'm sure it will dull and shine in a few spots as I play it over time, but as far as I'm concerned it's absolutely gorgeous. I haven't bothered making any adjustments to the setup. It could maybe use 1/8th of a turn on the truss rod, otherwise the factory setup is pretty stinking good. Once I got used to it, it feels really nice to play. I am genuinely more impressed with this bass than other bass guitars I have that cost me more. A bass this nice at this pricetag? Yamaha just made a new fan.

"Nice bass!"

I recently purchased the Indigo blue model and it's a great bass for the money with a beautiful flame Maple top. No sharp fret ends which is a big plus nowadays with Indonesian basses and it's perfectly balanced at 7 lbs with no neck dive whatsoever and the strings aren't spaced close together like many other five strings. The only thing I had to do was put a new set of strings on it and set it up to my liking. I'd also like to add that the intonation was perfect out of the factory. Another plus is that the preamp kicks butt, but also sounds great in passive mode, which isn't always the case with other instruments.

It plays as good as it looks. It sounds good although I have yet to try the active part of the pick ups. Normally, there’s a battery in the back so you don’t have to worry about that, but there was an empty compartment.
Sound
Out of the box, this thing sounded pretty good. It pops and seems to stay in tune. Again the only thing I’m bumming out about is the empty battery compartment for the active pick up. I won’t be able to get out until tomorrow to pick one up so I may come back and re-review.
