"Great bass for the money"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

I was skeptical about this bass until I played it. The bass needed a little setup, but once setup was done it plays better than some of the expensive basses I've played. The fact that it is so versatile by flipping a switch, whether you play rock, metal, or whatever the tone and sound is there. Love it and definitely my go to bass.

I got this bass because of video w/ Abraham Laboriel playing it. He could make a shovel sound great, but I was impressed enough with the sound & price to give it a go. When I received it, however, I was less than thrilled with the factory assembly. The neck was off center because the neck screws had been drilled incorrectly & the heel base was not sanded properly to fit the neck pocket correctly. This caused some issues with the B string that almost had me return it. Being a luthier does allow me some freedom with this scenario, so I determined the necessary changes would be undetectable bv anyone but another luthier & made the appropriate repairs. I am certainly glad that I did, as this bass is very funky with a great neck and versatile electronics; very reminiscent of a fender in playability/ feel & has some nice tone options. Fret job was nice & neck true. It has become a favorite in my arsenal

"Yamaha trbx305 bass"

I got a used one from World Music in Nashville. It sounded good in the store even though there was a little buzzing when I fretted the 1st couple of frets.I assumed the trussrod just needed to be loosened a bit. After I got it home I discovered it also needed some setup work due to a few high frets. After dressing the frets & filing the nut slots it plays well. There is also the fact that if you slap the B string & it touches the pickup polepiece it makes a loud electrical popping sound. A piece of electrical tape over the metal polepiece seemed to remedy that problem. Lastly there's the 5 position switch, which only sounds good in the middle position. (The upper position was tolerable for slapping) Apparently the middle position is "flat". I wish it had passive pickups but I don't care to spend any more money or time on this instrument. All in all for the money its a decent looking good sounding project bass.
