When the Yamaha THR10 first came out I thought they were dumb and something to be ashamed of. Then recently read the consistently favorable reviews and seen a couple wild demo videos of it in action. The THR10C is perfect for apartment dwellers. The sounds are awesome and genuine. It's also quality construction. The THR editor is simple and powerful. I'm planning to get the other two, the THR10 and THR10X. Had 3 tube amps recently and they are no match for this.

"Great practice amp"

I bought this because I wanted a small lightweight, good sounding practice amp. This definitely fits the bill. It's loud enough to be fun but not so loud that you'll bother the neighbors or wake everyone in the house. The different amp voicings are all very good but if you want a true high gain amp look at the other THR amps. The built in effects are great especially the chorus and tremolo. The headphone jack is really nice to have and uses a 1/4 inch socket. You can use it to run a line out to a mixer or to the power amp in input of a larger amp.A couple of minor complaints ; the amp is solidly built for the most part but the battery cover is cheap plastic and may not last long. The appearance of the amp is cool but the gold lettering on the control panel does not stand out well and is hard to read in dim light. This is very annoying. Also I admit that the simulation of glowing tubes looks good but I feel it just wastes power when running on batteries.Overall an excellent little amp.

The Yamaha THR 10C is very versatile and does modeling sounds quite well. The "Class A" setting on the amp type is very good. Has a full lower mid sound to it. A good bit fuller than the Fenderish cleans on 2 of the other settings. The "British Blues sound isn't too shabby either if you want a top boost sound of an AC** Vox, Runs on batteries as well which is a huge plus for me. Recommended. The steinberg peeps that made part of the software did respond back but they dont have their act together in the sf development area.
Sound
Great stero sound from the box itself. Haven't run it through a computer speaker rig yet.
Ease of Use
No problem at all getting a range of tones
Quality
build quality is very good
Value
a bit pricey

"Great sounding little amp - in search of a footswitch"

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

I bought this amp in hopes of getting a nice, thick, tube sound for playing jazz and smooth jazz while practicing with my backing tracks at home. Mission accomplished, as far as that goes. This is a great sounding little amp, but you won't get much more than a nice "crunch" sound, even at full distortion. If you want rock sounds, try the -X model. The thing that I find most frustrating about this amp is that there is no footswitch by which to select one of the 5 patches that you can set up. I have a Line6 Spider that allows selecting of any of four patches via footswitch, which makes it a perfectly viable gigging amp, probably mic'd if you're using it in a louder environment. The Yamaha doesn't give you that option, and suffers for it unnecessarily, I think, because it's a great sounding little amp.

Musical Background:

I have played for more than 50 years (damn!)

Musical Style:

I have played pretty much every style of popular music, at one time or another. Right now, I have a "smooth jazz" guitar act.
