I am going to get the high end Yamaha kit...the dtx550 teases you with big perfomance and falls a little short (my fault..you get what you pay for..) This is a very very nice starter kit if you are possibly hesitant...but if not...go big guns and you will be very happy. Will probably use this kit for two years and then use it as a practice kit. Very much want to upgrade to the high end offering by Yamaha. This kit will make you want to have the nicer one...Not that the DTX550 is bad...it just gives you a taste of what Yamaha can do...dangit...lol
Sound
Really like the sound of this kit. All the sounds guys that have done sound since purchasing this kit were a little weary about it..but said they were pleasantly surprised afterward.
Features
The free hihat stand is kind of a joke because the seperate pedal and pad offered on cheaper kits feels and performs much better than the hihat setup on the DTX550 kit. The kick pedal does not like the iron cobra double kick pedal...tons of travel..use a drum amp to keep it in place.
Ease of Use
Tweaking is pretty easy. Wish i would have sucked it up and bought the higher end kit with individual volume controls on the controller...o well..
Quality
All the parts seem very nice. The only reason for not giving a 10 is that the bolts...if not tightened after gigs...will vibrate loose during transport and you will lose washers and bolts. Very exciting.
Value
Its a nice kit for a reasonable price...I would suggest either buying the much higher priced option...or the roland with the seperate HiHat and pedal...it just seems to feel and work better...if thats a big part of your playing...The yamaha does sound better out of the box and has a less electronic tone than the comparable roland.
The Wow Factor
The snare is awsome..the cymbals are cool too. Other than that..its just an electronic drum kit.

"Great set of electronic drums for its superb price :D"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This set is fantastic, the part that amazes me the most is the snare pad, the sound quality, the hi hat pad as well as a free hi hat stand included as well as the huge cymbals.
Sound
This drum set is totally amazing, i was blown away by the sound when i tested it at yamaha through the yamaha ms50dr amplifier, and for the price, u get to have a snare pad which is ten inches and feels like real snare with the seperate rim triggers for cross stick or rim shot. The cymbals are huge enough for u to aim and the crash has a bell sound, which other e drums do not have, most importantly , u get to add 3 more inputs for extra toms or cymbals, great buy !
Features
The rack is made of solid metal which is coated with white colour, so its doesnt rust, and being 2 legged, u are able to keep ur drums at a corner of a room.
Ease of Use
Using it was at simple as abc, the drums sound so good that u can play it right out of the box.
Quality
The rubber pad, although they are slightly smaller than roland, but they have great rebound, surprisingly, the crash has a bell, the ride's bell is abit too small for me to aim at.
Value
This set of drums is just slightly more expensive than roland td 4 sx ( all mesh ) and it has ride with a bell, and it can be further expended, 400+ sounds, a real hi hat pad, a 10 inch snare pad, it is the most valuable e drum set right now.
Manufacturer Support
Never tried support with yamaha.
The Wow Factor
I would certainly want to own one of this as a practise kit but i have a main set at home now.
