I've been searching for a guitar with the rosewood body and the mahogany neck for some time now. I really like the deep base sound and the overall projection of this type of wood not to mention the strength and play-a- ability in the mahogany neck. I'm so glad that I purchased this Yamaha. The sound is truly assume, the neck plays very well and requires very little string pressure to play it. If I had purchased a Martin, Taylor or Gibson with the same specs ( including the electronics and same wood) it would cost no less than 2500.00 dollars and the only thing extra you get is the "made in the USA" label. I'm a vet and I love my country, but sometimes you just have face the facts.. Yamaha is not made in America but it was made for Americans, and this is one of the best guitars I have ever played. If your on the fence, this is a great guitar, at a great price, and you will not be disappointed.

I had a chance to purchase one of these a few years ago but passed on it and had always regretted that. These are incredible guitars that give you the most value for your dollar for a solid spruce / rosewood guitar and an ebony fretboard and bridge to boot! You won't be sorry if you purchase this guitar.

I wanted a do-everything guitar. This is an excellent piece of craftsmanship and Yamaha really needs to be commended for bringing such a great value guitar to market at this price.
Sound
Sounds is clear and articulate, the top is notable and stood out when I tried it in store. I think the torrefied top and just the general craftsmanship and playability makes this stand out against others of the same price. When I got mine delivered from zZounds, I thought it was a bit bright by default, but it warms up quite a bit with phosphor bronze strings and rosewood bridge pins. It's now a very mellow, articulate but warm sounding guitar that suits my strumming or picking equally well.
Features
With goo-gone and a lot of patience, you can remove the pickguard if, like me, you prefer your guitars without one. I love the cutaway and the quality of woods is excellent. The tuners do their job quite well. I think the nut and saddles are plastic but don't seem to detract from the sound, though I may try to change to bone at some point in the future just to see how it sounds.
Ease of Use
It's very playable out of the box. As part of my setup I shaved the nut and saddle down just a hair, being careful not to sand too far, and this just made it even easier to play. The matte finished neck is extremely comfortable, easy to move up and down, and in my hands feels like a substantial rounded Fender neck with vintage size frets.
Quality
It seems to me like they've used the best parts possible. There's no part of this guitar that has to be changed or is a problem, except for maybe the strings if you want to adjust the tone a bit. In my mind compared to a few lower quality acoustics I've had, without torrefied tops, this one's holding the relief that I set for it last summer and I haven't had to adjust the truss rod for quite a while. Acoustics I've had in the past are much less stable, and some electric guitars require much more frequent adjustment to keep them in the sweet spot for neck relief. I'm not an expert, but it seems this may have something to do with the craftsmanship / bracing and also the torrefied wood just being more stable.
Value
Extremely worth the price especially for all-solid woods, a torrefied top and a cutaway.
Manufacturer Support
No need to reach out to Yamaha or zZounds on this.
The Wow Factor
Overall the sunburst AC3R is a nice balance of darkly beautiful and super stylish, but in some ways is a no nonsense model. I like the fact it's such a great value but at the same time they didn't go all out on stylish bling that drives the price up. From what I can tell, the bulk of what I paid for was great wood and great craftsmanship. I mostly play electrics, so I wanted the one acoustic I own to have the best sound possible for a decent price, and for the neck to not feel worlds away from my Fender scale guitars. This certainly fits the bill.
