Washburn B6 Banjo, 6-String

The 6-string, open-back B6 banjo is great for guitarists that need an easy transition to banjo -- it's tuned the same as a guitar, and has a similar feel.

I've wanted a 6 string banjo since they were first introduced, but until this one from zZounds.com I couldn't afford one. In reality, I wasn't even planning to buy this one, when I went to my account. I saved a new strap for my new guitar, and after I decided to keep this one, I went to purchase the strap. I left owning a banjo, and had to return to get the strap. As a guitar player for many years, this banjo is a dream. I didn't have to learn a new instrument, just refine what I already play. You can't just strum a banjo and expect it to sound right. However, since my guitar style of playing is very selective string playing, the banjo fills the need to make everything even sharper when I'm playing for an audience which I do many times a year. The only down fall of the banjo, is that it is not made to accept a regular strap, and I always play on my feet. This is a true banjo, even though the playing and tuning are different than a 5 string. I've only had to tune it twice since it came, and I've played it extensively in the past 4 months. You just can't beat the sound, especially if you want the true bluegrass sound.

I've been looking at this banjo for several months now. I've wanted a six-string banjo since playing a "Stagg" model that a friend has. The problem was that no one has yet written any real reviews of this product- and I wasn't sure if the Washburn was a good choice. Well, after buying a cheaper brand that was simply wasn't playable I decided to go for the Zzounds.com offer of 4 payments. Well, once again (this is my fourth instrument from Zzounds,) I open the box, take a few minutes to tune and start playing away. Everything was in place and the action was just right. Somehow the bridge wasn't moved AT ALL during shipping, (it arrived two days after ordering,) so the intonation is perfect. I really haven't put if down since it came. I am especially enjoying the ease of playing old guitar standards on it, since the chords are more familiar to me. My sense is that it being a banjo, I will work harder on my finger picking, which came enhance my guitar playing and cross-over to standard banjo. I am really enjoying this instrument.
