I do not think that I will ever get rid of this guitar. I may look for other Taylor products to add to my arsenal, but I couldnt see getting rid of this baby.
Sound
The sound is phenomenal. I am an intermediate player who upgraded from an Ibanez AW (which also sounds great by the way). I could not believe the difference in the tones produced by this baby versus any other acoustic I've owned.
Features
If you are looking for fancy designs and inlays, you wont find it here. This is a player. Although not short on beauty by any means. The craftmanship and solidity of this instrument is amazing. It seems so simple that it kinda makes you wonder why any guitar company can't make an instrument with this sound.
Ease of Use
Unreal!!! A lot of the difficulty I had with other guitars, I attributed to my skill level. So one of two things is true. This guitar made me a better player.....Or its just that easy to play!!
Quality
Not a flaw on it!!
Value
Spending a grand on guitar based on my skill level was kind of hard to justify. After playing it at a local music shop (where it was way over-priced I might add), I fell in love with it. I of course could not fork out the dough for it. I found one from a private seller who did not like the width of the neck. I got basically a brand new guitar and case for $900. (Music store wanted closer to $1600) After owning this for almost 8 months now, I would definitely spend the 1400 average price for this instrument.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't had to use any support, but I dont imagine there would be much difficulty.
The Wow Factor
Not much sex appeal just sitting on a guitar stand, but once the sounds come pouring out......wow.

"TAYLOR DN4....WONDERFUL!!"

Could not have asked for a better guitar for what I paid for it ($750). I do not think theres another guitar out there that stacks up to this one for the dough.
Sound
Best sounding guitar I've owned. I've had it for about 5 months now. I cannot compare it to Martin b/c I've never owned one. I've had a Gibson songbird deluxe, and a few Ibanez acoustic guitars. This one kills them. This thing rings through all ranges.
Features
Toip of the line Taylor hardsell case came with. very nice. Not many other features of this instrument besides super solid Taylor craftmanship.
Ease of Use
I was amazed when I first picked this up. It almost didnt make sense to have such a low action without much buzzing. The ease of play on this baby is phenomenal. The original owner sold it to me but it was basically brand new. I was a little leery as to why he would want to get rid of this guitar if it was so sweet. It does have a wider neck and he had small hands. Fits me perfect.
Quality
Its a Taylor....Super solid.
Value
The price listed here at ZZOUNDS is relatively fair I think. I would pay this much for this guitar knowing what I know about it now. I did however get a much better deal from a private owner.

Havent had to deal with
The Wow Factor
It doesnt scream "Sexy" or anything. Although it is a beautiful guitar there are no fancy inlays or artsy designs around the soundhole. Thats not a bad thing, it just wouldnt make a great showpiece. But for a daily player its wonderful.

"Solid 8 out of 10"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I think I'll replace this one in about 6 month to a year. I've owned it for 2 months now and it's not my main guitar like I thought it would be. It's more of a way to mix things up, but I still fall back on rosewood and mahogany.
Sound
They claim it sounds similar to rosewood, but I own 3 rosewood solids and they are very different. The DN4 is very meaty and mid-range dominant. It's hard to distinguish the bass when strumming. Sounds a bit muddled until you get to the treble. Not recommended for fingerstyle, but for flatpicking and strumming it's a nice mellow sounding dread.
Features
I have the DN4e with Expression and despite the lack of appointments and bells and whistles, the electronics are very good IMO. I have a small 10 watt Crate that I use in the music room and it sounds fantastic. The gloss top on satin back and sides helps to make it pop, but other than that, it's not much in the way of features. Without the ES I'd give features a solid 7 just because of the superb craftsmanship that Taylor put in this one (I also own a 414 Ltd. and a 210e). Nice gator-style hardshell too BTW
Ease of Use
This is where the DN4 excels, very easy to play right out of the case and the neck is just SOLID. The action is Taylor quality, as in "low from the get go." No factory-made guitar company can compete with the Taylor necks, so smooth and comfortable. Playability is probably this guitars strongest asset.
Value
I think the ovangkol is a nice break from traditional woods, but nothing to get too excited about. I think the guitar can be cheaper, but with the Taylor name and quality I suppose it's decent. I think a hundred bucks lower than what they charge would be about right. The DN3 is about $300 cheaper and it sounds just as nice, if not better.
Manufacturer Support
I'd have to say that I've dealt with Taylor a number of times and they're always on top of it. I ordered a pickguard to put on my DN4e to give it that classic Taylor look and it came 2 days later. Very good service and never on hold for more than 1 min or 2. Not to mention that the complimentary Wood & Steel magazine that comes with the Taylor ownership is actually a great read.
The Wow Factor
It's just so pretty! That ovangkol is just killer to look at and the gloss top just screams "Play Me!" On aesthetics alone I would pick one up at a shop and play

Taylor DN4 Dreadnought Customer Review

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
Great for flatpicking and strumming. Not great but still very good for fingerpicking. Doesn't have a bluesy sound as most Gibsons and Martins. Perfect intonation, low string action w/ no buzzing anywhere. Very ringing chimey bell like tone. Bass, mids, and highs are very clear and clean. Sustain is very long. Volume can be very loud if strummed or picked hard.
Features
I mainly wish it had gloss finish on the back & sides instead of just the top. The DN6 & DN8 does. 18:1 ratio tuners are perfect. Tusq nut and saddle with ebony bridge pins is awesome! Real wood truss rod cover is great also. The black plastic binding stripe on the bottom side of guitar is kinda ugly as is the plastic white soundhole rings. I like but don't love the ovangkol back & sides. My dream Taylor would be with Madagascar Rosewood back & sides instead. 13-56 medium strings are perfect. Don't change the gauge. I love that it has no pickguard like some Takamines.
Ease of Use
Playability is perfect and as good as it gets because Taylor uses computerized machines and lasers to make their guitars.
Quality
Everything is perfect except soundhole rosette and bottom side binding. Frets and neck is great which is the most important for me, even more than overall sound.
Value
Great value. I hope Taylor never raises their current prices.
Manufacturer Support
Don't know.

Taylor DN4 Dreadnought Customer Review

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

Sound
I tried this acoustic in the st the store and absolutely fell in love with it. I have been so fussy with acoustics and never have been able to be satisfied with sounds. I've owned several including the bright Adamas ovation. But what really impressed me with this was the ringing balanced sound. It was so cool that it resembled a twelve string or a chorus but completely natural
Features
What features? It's a standard non electric non cutaway acoustic. A
Ease of Use
Vaery easy to play. Nice thin type neck style for my small hand and fingers. But for me finger pickin was also a breeze!
Quality
Top Notch. Just from this experience I'm a taylor fan. Note I never got this type of feel from any Martin or any other acoustic
