Taylor 618e Grand Orchestra Acoustic-Electric Guitar (with Case)

Rethink how you approach a maple guitar. With big leaf maple back and sides, the 618e's inherent brightness is mellowed by its torrefied Sitka spruce top.

The 2nd gen may very well be among the best sounding and playing guitars ever made. Far better feel and playability than my Gibson Songwriter. In fact I just sold my songwriter. The action on the 618e is set nicely for my style which is fold rock and acoustic blues, mostly with a pick and some finger style picking. I've been playing for almost 50 years & have tried or owned countless acoustic guitars but only very few have I been sentimental over. This guitar will stay in the family when I bite it. The Es2 is far better than many electronic systems but my old Taylor with the Fishman EQ system from back in 2001 projects better and offers more control. That's not to say the Es2 is not sweet to the ear. I plug it in to a Marshall acoustic amp and line out to the PA with just a touch of chorus. The brown hard shell case is made in Mx that I would give a 7 out of 10. I actually thought it would be of better quality. Overall the sound is well balanced and one of those guitars that makes me loose track of time when I play it. Almost forgot, get a sound hole cover to help control low end feedback when plugged in.

"Arguably the best (follow-up)"

Playing live Ive been plugging Straight into the board or line out from my Marshall acoustic amp. I felt I should do a follow up on my previous post due to the tremendous amount of low end feedback. After all these years of playing acoustic on stage or in small areas I thought I had learned all the tricks to control feedback. Now I feel like I should go back to square 1. I cannot get the full sound of this guitar at the sound levels I need. The little phase switch inside the sound hole helps a bit, a sound hole cover does nothing. If you want to compete with sound levels of a band you might need a sound engineer out front. The only way I'm able to bring the level up is to turn down the bass almost all the way which sounds terrible. I'm sure I could mic it but i hate to stay in one place all the time. unplugged This is the best sounding and playing guitars hands down and I'm going to keep trying to eliminate the feed back. However, I'm currently at a loss as to how I can do this and retain that full sound. It's amazing how much the sound board absorbs the low end and vibrates terribly. I'm open to suggestions!

"Taylor 618e Grand Orchestra"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I've owned several guitars over 50+ years including some high-end Martin's that I wish I would have held on to of course. Right? That said, I had read reviews on the Taylor 618e, all flattering. Finally purchased a 2016 and can honestly say it is an incredible guitar. Beautiful both in terms of quality and sound. Balanced from low to high with big, big projection. If you get a chance to play one do it! You won't be disappointed.

Taylor reached out to me regarding the low end feedback. They installed at no charge a lower output ES2. Feedback is gone and the guitar is simply amazing plugged and unplugged. Amazing customer service and tech support at the factory. I guarantee anyone who buys a 618 e with the newer gen of the expression system will have in my opinion the best sound and playing guitar on the market or at least better than the hundereds I have owned or tried over my long years of acoustics. My ratings are 5+
