Sold as an entry/intermediate kit, but honestly, if they had the starmount tom mounting system, you'd have a pro kit! Replace the heads with some Remos or the like and they tune up pretty good. Nice overtones aquired with Remo coated Emporer heads all around. The Meinl cymbals or OK, but quite heavy and dark. Good for some deathmetal or heavy hitting rock, but an upgrade to some decent discs would not hurt. Built well and all hardware included does what it is supposed to do! Kick drum pedal is quite adjustable along with the rest of the included Tama Stagemaster line of hardware. Would definatley recomend this kit for a really solid beginner on up player. Tama has been building some high quality drums in the past and these are no exception! Andwhat a killer price on these bad boys!!

Sound
The imperialstar has a sound similar to the set of ludwig maple shells I used to own. The meinl cymbals were a surprisingly good sound. I did opt for a set of Zildjian ZBT Pro. I like the cleaner and less gongy sound.
Features
The hardware was easy to assemble and set up. There are a great set of heads. And the bass was solid with no muffling for tone.
