I took my bass to Japan on tour in the SKB ATA Roto Electric Bass Case. The wheels made it super easy to navigate through busy airports, trains and other crowded spaces, and it was super handy to have the option of standing it upright when I was storing it. It also didn't seem any more heavy than a regular road case, and I had the added benefit of having my soft case on tour with me, which was handy for shows when we were just taking public transportation to and from the venue. The true test, though, was when I accidentally lost control of it at the top of a looooong train station escalator and had to watch helplessly as it shot like a rocket down the entire thing, then landed on it's side at the bottom level and proceeded to skid about another 20 feet. Luckily it wasn't a busy time of day, and no one was injured or hit by it. I was sure my bass was toast, but when I checked it, it was as snug as a bug in this thing. No damage to the bass, or the case (with the exception of a couple surface scrapes). Highly recommend.

This is my second one of these. The first one that I used from like 2007 or so to 2024. The wheels finally gave out maybe in 2013 or so and I fixed them myself and my repair finally gave way too. I broke down and got a new case and I hope tthe wheels are sturdier. It has a new strap locking system which should be easier for the TSA agents to figure out, the first one had metal clasps that snapped shut and were a bit difficult to open & close for those with either fat fingers or weaker fingers. We'll see how the new setup works. I am flying to Tokyo this weekend and it will get tested. I love the case and I feel good about flying with my bass in it after the first one was so great for what? 15 years?I recommend this case highly for the traveling bassist. Pro bassists use these. It's a great, sturdy, easy to travel with case. You have your gig bag inside and can leave the skb case in your hotel or bus. Great! I love it! To the manufacture: My only suggestions would be that the molding around the lock be further outdented so as to provide a protective barrier where the lock can't take a hit. Also that the wheels get a molded protective cover like the gangster cars of the 50's to protect them. The airlines are BRUTAL on these cases and while the case remains intact, I feel or I should say, I've experienced that the latches, the lock, the wheels need protection.
