I recently purchased 2 of these units and have to say that I'm very pleased with their performance. In my opinion, When using The slx24/beta 58A unit, it's sounds pretty much identical to a wired beta 58. From what I understand, this has to do with the fact that it transmits on a UHF channel frequency. Which makes it sound superior to the PG, BLX, GLX models. I've been using these for live band work and have never had any issues. on a typical gig i use 2 of these SLX mics, 2 shure PSM 200's. 2 of the bands older PG wireless mics, A dual band router running and also some wireless DMX units. Never had a problem. I find that the beta 58A capsule is brighter sounding than an SM58 capsule. So choose what bests suits your needs. It's also very cool that shure includes a rack mount kit, with the ability to move the antennae's to the front.

"Shure SLX, a great system"

All in all, the SLX systems are a very good, clean sounding system. In the past, we have primarily used the ULX systems by Shure. The SLX is very similar in many ways, but there are some differences. Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase of these systems. SLX have a slightly smaller frequency range, they are 24 Mhz wide where the ULX is 36 MHz wide. This just means you really need to check your area and make sure that you get a system with the most open channels in your area, since you have 12 MHz less to work with, in my example. Shure, at the time I am writing this review, has a great resource for this on their website. It allows you to enter your ZIP code and shows you available and non-available channels in your area. The ability for the transmitter and receiver to sync up to each other saves time by not having to manually set each transmitter, just put one button and it's done in a few seconds. I also like the fact that Shure includes a rack mount kit with each unit, not just feet for setting on your surface, as well as the ability to remote mount the antenna's when you do rack mount. No additional accessories are needed to be purchased, unless you want to add external antennas or rack mount 3 or more units. As for the sound and pickup pattern of the specific mic (SM58/Beta58/Beta87, etc), only you can decide what transmitter will be best for your application.
