Seymour Duncan SA6 Mag Mic Acoustic Guitar Pickup System
Plug in the Seymour Duncan SA6 for the best of both worlds. A magnetic pickup captures the meat of your tone, while a condenser mic gathers the resonance.

I installed this in a Taylor that has a Fishman Prefix blender, factory installed. The Fishman has always sounded decent. I use a small amount of under saddle piezo with it. I have an Anthem in another guitar and because every under saddle is always terrible I only use the mic. It is a very natural sound. The mic in the SA6 doesn’t seem as good a sound as the Anthem (we can’t really tell though because the mag pup is always on). It’s not even that the SA6 is that much better than the Fishman (in terms of tone, you might like the Fishman more). What makes it a clear winner for me, though, is the attack. The Fishman and Anthem are great with chords. However, when single note playing with them, especially when playing with piano or fiddle, the attack has always been disappointingly soft, mushy and the top two strings always sounded anemic and left me out of the mix. I could never get the sound I was looking for and could never make up the difference with more volume or picking harder. I didn’t understand why I was either too loud or too soft- until now.The magnetic pup gives the quick attack and forceful presence of an electric guitar. Single note attack on the top two strings is noticeably improved. There is an evenness in volume and presence everywhere on the neck that I liked. It was when playing double stop thirds and sixths that I was sold, though. They are full even when using a pick and a finger on the higher of the two notes.Moving on, being able to adjust the poles is very important. They are not that sensitive to movement. I was dialing down the top two strings (elixir 12 polyweb) and went 4 full turns before finally dialing them in and then raising the G string poles a tiny bit. This hybrid pup will make my parts seem stronger, with less effort and less volume. It is really out of character because I am never this forward, but honestly, Seymour Duncan should give me an SA6 for this review because I haven’t seen a single reviewer who spelled out what makes it a better choice.
